    Hi All,

Just wanted to share an entertaining article I read today that rings so true to me right now.

You can have a nice car. Or kids. But not both - The Globe and Mail

Just had a kid and finding it so hard to find time to spend on my cars.
I should be in Stage 2: Denial.

Its going to be so hard to keep the cars in good shape.
I'm dreading the time when I may need to do a diaper change in the car and a leak accident to occur.

    Which stage are you in?

I'm hoping to sacrifice one car for family duties and keep the other one in good shape.
hmm. I might be jumping to stage 4: Bargaining

    Enjoy the article.

If I cannot post links, please let me know.

I held out well with no food or drink in my truck for the first year and a half or so. Now it has animal cracker crumbs and dried apple juice everywhere.

    Ive given up :(

I've "trained" my girlfriend to not touch to b-pillar or door handle to close my door (she uses the edge of the door and gives it a slight push). I've also "trained" her to not eat or drink in my car.
Rest assured I can train my kids too if I decide to have any at all lol.

That was the most depressing article I have ever read! Just kidding but it was horrible to hear the story.

Well I'm neutered so nice car it is LOL. My girlfriend has a 9 year old boy that we have taught to be very clean with the cars. He does eat in them but when we go to Starbucks on our way to cars and coffee he opens the napkin up and places it on his lap. Once he finishes eating he folds up the napkin with the little crumbs he spilt and throws it away when we get out of the car. It's pretty funny. Now if we could get him to do the same in the house lol

Lol, so true. My aunt has a really nice truck that was always kept clean. Now after having 2 kids, you basically have to swim through cheerios to get to your seat.

Just stick to water and dry snacks and you'll be fine. Keep a 12v vacuum in the car for spills.

I'm going thru this right now ... once a proud owner of a GTO and a CTS-V ... I'm currently driving a 10 year old Maxima SE with plenty of battle scars. I love cars, but I love the family even more. This sacrifice is hopefully paying off soon ... I hope.

Somehow, our family managed to keep our cars decent looking as my parents raised my brother and I, I'm 17 and he's 13 now. We rarely ate in the car, and never really drank anything but water in there. We kept a trash bag and threw away our garbage whenever we got somewhere. The only spillage was my brother, who went through a spell where he threw up on any car trip longer than 2.5 hours. Which we cleaned up immediately after he vomited. We washed the cars (albeit with incorrect technique, this has changed since I found this site) every week or two. We just sold our 2001 Volvo V70 to my cousin for her first car, 101K on it and though not like-new by any stretch, it looks pretty good for a 9-year old car. I guess we were the exception to the rule :p

Kids are simply not an option for me. I don't like 'em, and I don't want 'em, so problem solved before it even began! :p I must admit though, it was relatively easy for MY mother to keep her interior clean since both my brother and I love cars, so we would listen and behave if she mentioned the words "good for the car" lol. The outside...not so much.

I'm actually had a hard time getting my wife to not eat in the new car though. She thinks of it this way:

(we're both paying for it BTW) "If I'm paying for part of it, I can do what I want with it, so I'm going to eat in the car"

While I'm more along the lines of "Since we're both paying and we can't agree on what should be done, we should just leave it to it's own nature, and cars don't come with food in them from the dealer, so..."

(I actually won, can you believe it?!)
