Well I was able to make a few detailing videos of the last vehicle I detailed on my old home, I haven't had much time to load them up but finally able to do so.

These videos are all about wool pads.

Wool pads work incredibly well when you have some serious correction to complete, mixed with a compound they will completely level/flatten the clear coat and remove deep scratches and deep swirls.

The products I used for the first video are as follows:
    • Menzerna 6inch wool pad.
    • Metabo with 3M UK Yellow Backing Plate.
    • 3M Perfect-it III Fast Cut Plus Compound (50417)

One thing I should point out and I stress, is that the video is just my way of using wool pads, it works for me and it gives me the results I'm happy with. Please don't think that this is the only way of compounding or using a wool pad there are many ways, but I'm just sharing as it may help some members. Also, when I was making this video, like all videos I do them in my garage, my garage was extremely hot that day and as you will notice I was sweating buckets with the heat in side the garage and the 1,000W lights didn't help. The reason I mention this is because halfway through the video, I switch the rotary from one hand to the other hand, to remove sweat from my forehead, the wool pad was not touching the surface during the switching of hands. I'm pointing this out because on the video it seems as though the wool pad is touching the paint, but it really isn't. Also I don't want people thinking that such maneuvers are a good habit to get in to.

Well here is the video, again sorry for the lengthy download (to some of you) but I wanted the quality to be as high as possible, hope you find the video usefull:

The second video I made, is to show how I spur the wool pads after it has been used to compound the vehicle. Spurring a wool pad is really not that difficult but I do remember my first time and well hopefully some of you will find this usefull:

    Another great video there Carlos.

I had a question, roughly how much paint are you removing when you are compounding with a wool pad?

Glad you enjoyed it matrix :peace:

As to how much clear I was removing durin this process, I honestly didn't keep track of exactly how much clear I was removing but when everythin was said and done it was in the range of 6 to 10microns I removed. You'll see what I mean, I'm just about to post the detail.

Thank you pirex, I've got a kit of the Scholl pads including the wool pads, I agree they work quite nice :thumb:

Glad you enjoyed it dionnfr :peace:

Thanks for another amazing and helpful set of videos. I'm sure it'll help a lot of us out.

On a similar note, the original thread has been updated Carlos. I've been having sound issues when viewing the videos using Firefox so I'm going to do some more testing to figure out what's exactly going on when I get a chance.

Oh really, oh that reminds me there was a member here that was having problems downloading the vidoes, he sent me PM saying that he changed to a different browser and is now able to download the videos, maybe this will help others that may be having the same issues.

Where do you buy the menzerna wool pad? Or is there another smaller wool pad that would be good. I've heard people also recommed 3M wool but I can't find them or don't know which one to get. I I want to try wool but can't find anything in the 6" or smaller size.. and I don't want the PFW because I heard they don't last very long.

    BTW thanks for another video!

Well I was quite fortunet to pick up a few Menzerna wool pads from Europe, unfortunetly I haven't seen any Menzerna wool pads available in the US or Canada. 3M wool pads work great, the only draw back is there size. Normally they are 8inches, the 8inches can come in handy when you have some large panels but me personaly I prefer the 6inches...but that's just me. As to where to pick up 3M wool pads, well 3M is well known through out US/Canada you can just google 3M and you should find lots of information about them. As to which one, well there are a bunch yes, but look for compounding then there are a few grade difference in between them, 3M has a really aggreive compounding wool pad. Any who the point is that you can get 3M and they will get the job done.

I honestly don't know of any other wool pads in the size of 6inches oh I know pirex sells the Scholls wool pads, they are good wool pads as well, I have a few of them my self. Maybe check with pirex from Scandic Shine to see if you can purchase some Scholl foam pads from him.

Glad you found the video usefull :peace:

Glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for the feed back.

Rotaries are great, they get the job done and fast, there is a learning curve but to be perfectly honest it's really not that bad, you just have to take your time and best of all have fun :peace:

how come you didn't jewel the finish down at slower rpm
you would have gotten a near flawless finish with that
if you jewel the finish with every product, the better the gloss will be and no holograms, hazing or swirls will appear

Well on this particular video I was just trying to remove defects, most of the time I only use wool pads to remove some severe imperfections on vehicles. After the wool pads I always follow up with foam pads, the more I play with wool pads though the better I get, I would love to finish flawlessly with wool pads, I've seen it done but I still can't seem to get it...also depends on the clear coat but slowly I'm getting there with wool pads.

Glad you guys enjoyed the video :peace:

Well that's the odd thing, on this Lexus the paint was not transferring over to my foam pads or wool pads. Most vehicles with mixed clear transfer some colour on to foam pads but this one didn't...kinda odd, most vehicles I've detailed have been clear coated, including Lexus, I've yet to come across a mixed clear Lexus. I wonder if this is a US thing :shead:
