Why Purchase Wheel Cleaners?

I recently bought a bottle of Autoglym Custom Wheel Cleaner and Sonax Full Effect tried them out and don't really notice the difference between them and using your car wash soap and water. I found the results to be the same so why purchase wheel cleaners?

Sonax is a maintenance cleaner at best. Its great that it changes color but AG CWC is a better cleaner IME and can double duty as a great tire cleaner. Real heavy dust, not just layered, dried dust, but road filmy, heat exposed, moisture exposed crusty stuff requires a completely different approach than playing colors of the rainbow.

Many people buy things because they like to know "wheel cleaner for wheel, tire cleaner for tire". Some people purchase because things are marketed to them to appeal to them(sometimes subject to getting duped). Some people purchase items because they simply buy what person X on the forum is using assuming they will get the same results. Some people just like spending money...

Too many times, I have read "well I use exactly what you use but can't seem to get the same results"... same situation.

To that I will answer, I buy certain "aggressive" wheel cleaners and a maintenance cleaner(not Sonax) because of the effectiveness and/or the need for true given cleaning power. I always recommend a diluted lighter cleaner, and then using soap and water to clean maintained wheels. OEM coatings on wheels typically don't end up getting breached under normal condition and as such are cleaned just fine.

If I may ask - why did you purchase both of them and from whom?

Sounds like your wheels are well maintained to where soap and water are able to clean them. I use AG CWC as a wheel and tire cleaner and really like it. It cleans well and is cheaper then sonax. Now with that said I still love sonax, which never let me down on european cars where brake dust is just baked in. I never really used just soap and water, as I do get quite a lot of brake dust after 2 weeks/700 miles of driving...

I got the CWC for $35 for 5L so just bought it and the Sonax was on sale. Can't believe they go for $100+ for the gallon size imo not remotely close to being worth it.

I just foam cannon my wheels using Chemical Guys Maxi Suds and use a tire or wheel brush and clean the crap out of them (not that dirty to begin with as I wash weekly). I had the same results using this method on my $8000 forged wheels versus the AG CWC / Sonax Full Effect. But at a price tag of $35 for a 5L of AG CWC I can see myself to start using a wheel cleaner but anything above that cant really see the point imo.

Can you take a pic of 2 weeks 700 mi on your car Sergei? I am curious what it looks like.

I rock brembos and heavy dusting performance pads on a vehicle of mine and I really only need soap, water agitation and a periodic spritz of something even similar to just CWC....even after 20-25+ weeks of complete neglect. Guilty as charged though, I know...

Autoglym Canada. But I think Autoglym distributors have to sell within their region so you have the find a distributor in your area. If your in the U.S it is Radiant Auto Supply I think. Prices should be the same everywhere. 25L goes for $115-120.

I doubt very much that you are getting CWC for $35. Wanna post a copy of your invoice?

On a DD and if you wash/maintain the car weekly you can usually get away without using wheel cleaners, I use Megs or Zeps APC 4:1 to presoak, then maybe alittle agitation with the brush, and pressure wash it off. works, save the wheel cleaner for when they get real nasty.

If I can get CWC for $35. I will considering bathing in it, that's how much I love it. Just today my dad was getting a estimate for landscaping and concrete work we wanted done in the front and back yard and I mentioned I was detailed to the contractor. He had problems with his chromies on his F-150 and blasted some CWC and he left with a huge smile. Now I offered to detail his truck for free if he could give us a better "quote"

I live in B.C where Autoglym Canada is located. Feel free to call him he will quote you $35 (without shipping). I've bought from him numerous times and lots of people have on other forums. But Autoglym distributors are told to only sell within their region. So if your're in the U.S contact an Autoglym U.S distributor. I know when I called Radiant Auto Supply they quoted me in the low 30's (before I knew they didn't ship to Canada). Dealers and wholesalers get it for even cheaper than $35.

What I like to do with my leftover glossworkz is mix 1-2oz with 2oz of Zep Citrus in a 16oz bottle with a foam sprayer. Great foam action, plenty of power, and leaves the wheels stupid shiny. I could probably get away with car shampoo on wheels, but the barrels always require something a tad stronger.

$35 for CWC is crazy! I need to get in on that.

You might be surprised when you have to work on a range rover owned and beaten by a college chick who never maintains it. Dish soap and water just won't cut it on those wheels.

I just sent an e-mail Murray @ Radiant Auto Supply to see what the pricing is like. I know he was able to do a great deal on HD wax.
