Not that many people use Hitachis? I dont get it? On paper the Hitachi is: cheaper (price) lighter more amps Higher top end RPM (not that it matters) Can someone chime in? Is it just because Paul uses it?
Um...not sure...Hitachi just wasen't available when I wen to pick up the Makita but it sometimes has to do with reputation, Makita has a good reputation...I honestly don't know much about Hitachi's reputation  just my opinion....oh and when you see pro's from the UK use it and swear by it it's hard to ignore.
I bought a makita because it was onsale at rona.... have had no need for a new one... my makita is great
The Makita just feels like home. I don't know why. I feel so comfortable with it. My Makita was identical to CalgaryDetail's. Sometimes a tool just feels right, it is well balanced, not too light and not too heavy, and that is what the makita does so well. I am using a Dewalt now, and it feels well balanced and it handles very nicely. Guys who uses polishers with some weight know what I am talking about, movement feels deliberate. Would I go to take it to work on a plane....hell no. I don't know if the 9227 is the best at anything, but it is always a close 2nd or 3rd, it is an all arounder.
thats very true about the makita feelin right, I used the metabo the other day, i really did not like it.. it was a good tool but just didnt feel right,...
I got the Makita because thats the one I found the most info on.I did'nt see many people on any forums talking much about the Hitachi, thats my only reson.
Doesn't the Dynabrade have more amps than all rotaries? That is a under hyped rotary, IMO. I went with Makita becuase it is a trusted brand -- always has been. My father and grandfather have Makita tools that are 20-30+ years old. Plus I got a good deal on it.
Ya...It feels like having an ADD kid on a leash. I did like the weight, but it seems like almost too much power for a little machine so it kind of has a mind of its own. I know that over time I would like it, but I can't really think of a good use for one. hehehe, Mine is in the mail. It takes 3 handles. Its probably the only rotary that takes a handle in the top. I don't even know how much it is going to cost me...but it is in the mail. It has a good feel to it though. It is hard to explain.
On paper the Hitachi is: cheaper (price) lighter more amps Higher top end RPM (not that it matters) Phil,i have only used a Makita but read many post where people used the Hitachi stating the reasons you listed. ..in the many post i read ..i have not heard of any of the users being dis-appointed with the Hitachi ...seems to be a quality tool with a good reputation..
My Hitachi is my work horse and hasn't let me down. I was one of the first on the forums to jump on it.
Asphalt Rocket says its the same as the BD one. He likes em. I understand the difference between Metabo and Hitachi, the feel is different. But the Makita and Hitachi feel is almost identical Really? the metabo is so much easier to handle and hops so much less. The Hitachi seems like the kid w ADD LOL:baby:
I have both..A Hitachi and a Makita...and when it come time to use one I always grab my Hitachi...it just feels better to me when using....I bought the Hitachi for 99.00 at coastal tool when they first got them...so it was a no brainer to get it..I grabbed it when I dropped the Makita from the roof when sanding some fascia boards so I needed one till I could get some parts to fix the Makita....I cracked the casing an had to replace it.... Now the Hitachi gives me 5 years warranty also...Both are great machines...but I just like how the Hitachi uses its power...the trigger seems more sensitive to feather the speeds with...and it runs cool as a cucumber and never heats up after long uses..the Makita would get warm after long use... all in all both are great machines.. Also you can get a reconditioned Hitachi for 119.00 and full warranty ...not bad.... AL
Ok let me find the link...I think i sent to Shabybreal also...I get emails from Hitachi all the time with the link...so hold on Al
Grabbed my Hitachi when it was $100 with shipping, with the 5 year warranty! The Hitachi was built based on the Dewalt/Makita designs if I remember. Light, well balanced (like the dewalt when placed on a panel), reinforced electrical cord outlet, etc. It's a GREAT tool at a good price. Might not be "popular" but it works just fine.
I have both and the Makita is, IMO, the superior machine by far... The Hitachi weighs less (and a lot more than the ounce that is reported), has a GREAT trigger (you can easily dial the RPM up or down with trigger pressure vs. the Makita which is more like an on/off switch) BUT the speed dial sucks. It doesn't "click" and I cannot tell you how many times when you go to set it down, your thumb rolls the dial and when you start up again the RPM's are way different than before and the durabilty has been terrible. I am on my fourth in a year. The Makita is heavier (which to me feels better, more solid) and also seems to have better build quality. It just feels better, IMO. The slow start is nice, given the stiffness of the trigger. It also is quiter and "seems" more powerful. That said, it really comes down to personal preference. Its like watching pro baseball players argue about a 33 oz bat or a 34 oz bat, its all how it feels to you. Me, I couldn't be happier with the Makita.
