It's lighter, easier to handle and finishes clean easier than a rotary.

they say ithe rotory may leave buffer trails and the pc w/grey pad will clean that up with a mild polish. I had to use it yesterday on a buffer trail used a 4"pad white and xmt2 and it worked for me just 2minutes.:applause2:

Maybe some people cant finish with the rotary, or they just dont like to. The rotary obviously corrects better, but I think it also produces a better final finish.

i do a final with My Megs G110 just as a precauton...i have finished many cars with only a rotary but always feel a final once over with the orbital insures i have completely removed all buffer trails on a dark colored car.....

lately i have been doing alot of Fresh paint for a local body shop and it seems fairly soft so i always reach for the orbital and Ultrafina to finish it off....just mY preference...some may disagree but it works well for me....

If the paint's pretty hard, I can usually finish with a rotary without any problems. For all other cases, I typically finish with the PC if the attempt with the rotary doesn't work out well.

I agree. I will use my UDM to apply DG 501 (although I have used the rotary as well..depends on my mood) and I now use it to apply DG 105. I like doing that b/c I can make sure I haven't missed any spots over the 601.

I agree with D&D on this one. I think alot of guys prefer to finish with a pc to avoid any potential buffer trails that might be left with a rotary. If you use a rotary with a finishing polish like PO85RD and a blue or black finishing pad you will get a better shine than you will with a pc. A pc will make it look nice. A rotary will make it look great. Keep your speed down ( no more than 900 - 1200 rpm) and work the polish until it goes clear and you'll be fine. Because you are just burnishing the paint and not trying to perform any correction, there's no need to use higher rpms. Just my opinion. I'll put on my flak jacket and await the responses! LOL

x4 - I've never worked on a vehicle that couldn't be finished with a rotarty and had or needed to resort to a PC.

    I don't own a PC so I always finish with a rotary:coffee:

Well there is no right or wrong in this case... it's just preference and skill level is all that it amounts to.

It just comes down to skill level, but if you want to be good at this you should be able to finish down with a rotary on all types of paint. It just makes the finish so much nicer and then you know you are a pro at what you do.

Personally got better results with a rotary than an RO. Had a RO for years, after getting the hang of the rotary, it just seems to work better and somewhat quicker. I've never had a buffer trail yet.

Now that I think of it, I don't really remember finishing with a PC since I got my Metabo. I still do use my PC though to apply my waxes/sealants. That really helped when it came to waxing that race car trailer, LoL.

Well it's been said over and over but I too beleave it's personal taste.

I use my rotary(s) for everything, from compounding to finishing and from extremely soft clear coat to extremely hard clear coat and I don't need the PC to fnish any vehicle. Besides the vibration of the PC was not good to me, I just didn't like the vibrations that's all...but just personal taste

Now that I've gotten comfortable with the rotary, I don't see any reason to finish with the PC. For me, I finished with the PC because it was a comfort thing, being a new rotary user.

Now...I do still use the PC on certain parts of certain cars. If I'm working on something like a pillar, with lots of plastic or rubber trim running down either side of it, I use the PC there. I also used it recently on an MR2 Spyder's engine lid. That had louvers running down the middle of it, and I was pretty sure I'd do more harm than good using the rotary on them. Think of a panel that's pretty much nothing but edges to catch and burn, and you've got the idea. :gasp:

i find it strange because you cannot jewel the finish with a pc like you can a rotary and that heat buildup is what makes the final product look soo good.. i have never had an issue well one and i just started this year and i have never personally used a PC only a rotary.. i jumped right in.. i had an issue one time where i stuck through but it was more of a paint defect after that panel had been resprayed from a scratch.. and it was soooo minor i didn't even worry about it..if i had a paint guage i would have not committed the error esp trying to get an imperfection out that was under the clear coat.. plus i think that was the second time correcting for me. and no i have never gotten a panel i tried.. but i couldn't get one calling the junk yards or body shops!!! they hate me i even offered to pay!!

honestly i highly doubt unless i get struck by lightening and lose part of my brain that i will buy and use a PC.. i don't see the need at all.. and if you are leaving buffer marks with a rotary then you are not correct the paint.. you are an idiot with a rotary,, meaning you are most likely holding it on a SEVERE angle with pressure and creating the marks..or a dirty pad or too much polish.. another way if when you wax and not getting all the wax off and you smear it around and can make it look similar to buffer marks!!

people don't be afraid of the rotary and that includes finishing!!! just watch video's.. nica's are GREAT and look on youtube for other reliable video's from members of e90 post such as Paul Dalton and others!!
