Well, it's that time of year again. A nice weekend and a chance to sort the MG out after the winter.

Here she is looking a little sorry for herself.

I had already given the arches a good soak with some BH Surfex @ 4:1, followed by a good scrub with a brush and a rinse off.

The calipers got a quick coat of Hammerite smooth black and some High Temp paint on the hub and disc edge.

I need to sort some protection on the arches though, theres a few little rusty spots starting to come through.

Anyway one of the reasons for all this attention.

The wheels had been down at my good friend's unit all week being refurbed. I must say he did fantastic job on them. The wheels have always let this car down, but not now. :D

They were chemically stripped, had the edges ground and filled smooth, followed by gloss black and clear powder coat.

    So on with the detail.

Car was washed using an RB Merino mitt and top secrect test shampoo. Then dried with a Super Plush Drying Towel.

Lower half de-tarred with Mark V Qwik Solv.

Clayed with Bilt Hamber Auto-clay Soft, using plenty of water for the lube. Before being dried off again.

    Now onto the wheels.

Sealed back and front with a couple of coats a new test sealant I have. Applied using a Foam Finger applicator.

The sealant left a very nice slick, glossy finish.

Now at this stage it was getting late in the day and I was chomping at the bit to get the wheels on the car. So I called it a night on the detail and concentrated on fitting the wheels and getting the car off the stands.

Following morning I was out bright and early. The paint was cleansed with Lime Prime Lite, worked a section/panel at a time and buffed off straight away.

Next a coat of wax, Rubbish Boy's Original, no brainer really. :D Applied as thin as possible using a Foam Finger.

Wax was left to cure for a while.

Then removed with a Marvel buffing towel.

After a few hours, the car was wiped down with chilled water and a Super Plush Buffing Towel, to make sure all residue had been removed.

Glass cleaned with Mark V Window Sheen, door shuts had Mark V Fast Wax and plastics with Mark V California dressing. As the tyres were brand new they were left au natural. :)

    And the finished shots.

    Wow, the wheels look great!

I cringed a little at the watch, but then realized you probably just held the finger pocket with your left hand to take the picture :D

Did you heat the applicator before digging in?

Thanks for the comments everyone. :thumb:

MG/Rover used a Honda Civic and grafted a boot on it to make it a saloon and managed to squeeze in a V6 motor. A the time MG/Rover were owned by BMW so there is some BMW influence there in the styling.

It is a great handling car.

Yeah, purely visual. :) I would have made a right mess applying it with my left hand. :giggle:

No heating, just several twists to get it going.

great work, Ben! Question, how do you like Mark V tar remover? How is it compared to Tardis? Is it another great alternative?

came out great Ben. How do you like the Fastwax? I got some last year from them directly. Still never gave it a whirl yet.

    Thanks Guys. :thumb:

The Qwik Solv works along the same lines as Tardis, it's a solvent based product. I prefer the Qwik Solv personally, also it should be easier to get hold off for you guys in the US too.

Give it a try Roger, it is really easy and quick to use, great for a quick top up when you want something more than a QD. Also ideal for places like door shuts and things as it doesn't matter if it goes all over the plastic and trim.

I'll have to admit that I wasn't impresed with the first photos, but the end product is really sweet!!! :applause2:
