you know that dirt or some kinda oil residue on tires that doesnt come off with wheel or tire cleaners? had one yesterday and had to use rag to remove that stuff off. any kinda cleaner that can take that stuff off?
I'm not 100% sure what you're talking about but Autoglym Custom Wheel Cleaner has pulled grime out of tires like I've never seen before. So give that a shot if you have some laying around.
You can also use a mild solvent or adhesive remover to wipe the tire down and that should remove any oils, built up tire dressings etc.
is it maybe silicone tire dressing residue or something? try custom wheel cleaner first, then go more aggressive. grime reaper, zep citrus undiluted/TAW, or like ken said, a solvent like 3M adhesive remover.
it does sound like some kinda silicone dressing. only seen it twice i did try 3m adhesive remover and it worked best but i did it on small area and didnt want to use it on whole thing without making sure it was safe citrus didnt do anything. megs superdegreaser didnt do anything either
I may get shot for this, but I use Simple Green as my normal tire cleaning product. It does the job, it's affordable (comparable to "tire cleaning" products) and it doesn't harm the finish on the wheels or anything. I've tried other products, but keep coming back to this. Give it a shot.
When I had a really heavy silicone tire dressing on my car(Megs endurance) it took 3 hits of Zep Purple 4:1 to clean it off. The citrus never even made a dent in it. I suppose you can try Zep purple at full strength.
I wouldn't wanna use 3M adhesive remover every time I clean tires...first of all it's not cost effective, second, it might even dry tire out...
i have simple green but didnt try that. i might try zep purple. i kinda need what deff works couse i dont get this a lot
Surfex HD from Bilt Hamber (Ben the RubbishBOY sells on his shop) is an environmentally safe highly effective water based degreaser you can dilute at high ratios and still be effective to clean engine, tires and trim. It is very inexpensive for the UK but shipping would be high for the US and Canada of course.
Try a2z wheel cleaner by eagle one . I just tried it on some bad tires and the dirt just jumped off . I wasnt expecting it being so good + 2 for 7 at autozone
Yes, you should clean the tyres down to the original rubber surface, this is especially important when you apply a new dressing, as dressings won't adhere to, or create the right shine on dirty rubber or silicone residue. This tyre cleaner is a strong concentrate; spray-and-rinse, without scrubbing, if you are starting on an old, neglected surface, use a fairly stiff tyre brush for the first application and a spray & rinse at least 3-4 times a year - Autoglym Custom Wheel Cleaner
simple green does on ok job for me. but i just got some zep purple and was prety impressed at the dirt it took out of my tires. use it at 4:1. just remember that if you have any wax on your wheels, you won't after zep hits them.
