What to stand on to work on roof?

What are you using to stand on in order to work on the roof? Do you just use the door sill? Ladders seem too risky to have close to a vehicle, especially since you would be leaning off to the side while working.

I have a sturdy 3 step ladder with a flip out tray with tool holes. Will hold my polisher and products. Seems to work good. Looks something like this

Grab this on Black Friday for $19 or so. Wonderful item to have.

 

Be VERY careful with anything made from wood or metal as when it gets wet it's VERY slippery... ask me how I know! lol

Get some kind of gripped rubber mat to put on it.

I've seen Lowe's run a black Friday special as well on aluminum work platforms.
