There are tools such as the metal spur for wool pad, nylon brush for foam pads, duo spur for both wool and foam etc... So what is your preferred tools and method for spuring wool/pads during a detail? I intend to buy a duo spur tool but it seems like the 'teeth' is made of plastic and will not be as good as a metal spur. Would it be better to use a seperate nylon brush and metal spur instead of the duo spur or is there any better tools?
I have this brush for foam pads: Foam Pad Conditioning Brush cleans and reconditions foam and wool pads on the buffer. remove excess caked wax and polish from buffing pads. I have these 2 cleaners for foam pads: DP Polishing Pad Rejuvenator was created to provide detailers with a fast and effective way to clean pads without soapy residue or foamy degreasers. (it works really well) XMT Polishing Pad Cleaner by Pinnacle For your dual action or rotary polisher. And this spur for my wool pads: Buff & Shine Wool Pad Buffing Spur
For my wool pads, I use a very expensive tool to spur them: For my foam pads, I also use an expensive tool to clean them:
Lately I've just been walking inside, running it under water for a minute then just spinning it dry on my rotary and it works good as new. For quick cleaning, I'll use my hand or toothbrush.
Currently I am using a plastic chopstick for wool and toothbrush or mf cloth for pad and it works for me. Any idea does the metal spur and foam pad conditioning brush works any much faster or better? The thing about using a tooth brush is since they all have different stiffness of bristle, I am looking for the correct stiffness that can clean faster yet safe to pad.
See, I was wondering about finding something with a bigger head than a toothbrush. But I'm not spending 13 bucks on that foam pad cleaning brush. Try the paint section at a home improvement store. Or maybe the tools. There are lots of regular items that can be used for detailing if you have an imagination.
I just reach for a new pad! I would rather grab a new one in 5 seconds rather than clean one out for 1-2 minute...heck, thats like 20 minutes more on the detail time...lol I have like 20 orange pads, 8 PFW pads, 6 white pads, 4 green, 3 blue, two black, one sealant pad that I bring on every single detail! I dont go through them all, but its nice to have them in case! and for washing them after...washer as normal and dryer on LOW heat for 10 min
