The finish on these are usually not as robust as the bodies. Can you feel the sap on top of the surface? If so, basic rubbing alcohol should safely melt it away.
This is old damage. The white marks you see is what is left *after* the sap was removed with alcohol and the car was hit with cleaner wax by hand to no effect. When you rub your finger over the white spot you can feel a "roughness" but it does not catch your finger nail as much as deep scratch does. I just washed the car in detergent very well and clayed the whole car....with special attention to the spots...then QD to remove the clay residue. Some of the spots became a little lighter. The ones on the door that appear like "drips" are much smoother. The ones on horizontal surfaces where the sap didn't drip, like the trunk, and stayed in a glob are definitely worse. should I avoid DA on the handles if the paint is so much lower quality there?
Yes, do the handles by hand and not machine and make sure to tape them off. (they look pretty weathered). Are you saying that you have already removed all the tree sap and these are basically just stains from them being on the paint? Ewh, that might be an issue. As long as all the sap is gone I would keep your fingers crossed and try to buff them. The stains will either fade away after a few passes of then will ultimately be trapped into the paint.
yup all the sap has been removed. Especially from the drip shaped ones....you can't even feel those. But the ones on the trunk roof, hood feel rough.
I think it it was me, I would go over those things with goof off professional and a Qtip to insure all the tree sap is really gone.. I live in the world of tree sap and use this method all the time with never an ill effect.. Certainly, if tree sap is left long enough it will etch into the paint and cannot ever be removed, but it will be super flat, and usually, clear and you see the color of the paint through it after polishing.. Good luck with this! Dan F
