Hi, So I've been doing some reading and am going to start buying the Washing & Claying supplies I will need to work on my car. Information about my car: 2009 Dodge Charger (Black) Budget for washing and Claying: $150 for all products and supplies I've compiled a list of all the supplies & Products I will be using and any questions I have regarding products and precautionary steps. 1. Washing From my understanding I believe that I will need two (2) types of soap: a) a soap that removes previous waxes and b) a soap that doesn't remove waxes. So what soap(s) should I get? I heard CG's have some good products. Supplies for Body: 2 wash mits 2 grit guards 2 buckets 2 waffle weave drying towels products for body: 1x shampoo to remove previous wax* 1x shampoo that doesn't remove wax* supplies for Tire/Rims: 1 Soft boar hair brush 1 brush to clean wheel wells sponges to apply tire shine products Products for Tire/Rims Wheel degreaser* Wheel well darkener (something like Adams In/Out spray)* Tire shine* * represents any products that I would like you guys to recommend. I'm not sure what is good on the market and what is the best etc.. so please feel free to make any suggestions! Also feel free to add any materials/supplies/products I may have missed. 2. Claybaring Once the car has been washed I would like to claybar it. Although the car is a 2009 model I feel like it is in need of thorough claying. Supplies needed: -none Products Needed: 1x Riccardo Blue Clay (what's the difference b/ween the blue and the yellow clay?) lots of detail spray* Please make your recommendations on the detail spray of choice that works with the Riccardo Clay. I think that pretty much covers the Washing and Claying aspect of my detail job. Initially I have budgeted $150 for all products and materials needed to properly wash and clay my car (excluding shipping) but if $150 is a low ball figure then plz do correct me. Thanks for all your knowledge,
I've used Optimum No Rinse (ONR), mixed to their recommended ratio for use as clay lube, with Riccardo clay. Worked great.
You should check out the E-Shine web page and talk to chris I found he was very helpful when I started buying products!
150 is kinda low....detailing will start to take a toll on your wallet. it starts off slowly and will increase EXPONENTIALLY! =p but if you're really on a budget, here some of the budget things i've gotten: Supplies for Body: 2 wash mits $5 - 15 ea or get a zymol sponge (which i prefer) $5 from:Zymol Necessary Detailing Extras at Detailbest.com Store 2 grit guards $8-10 ea just shop around 2 buckets 5-8 ea 2 waffle weave drying towels - for economically great waffle weaves, head out to walmart and go to the kitchen isle. they have soft waffle towels 16x16 (3 for $4) Takes me about to dry my car (once it starts streaking i use a new one) products for body: CG CWC and CWG can be both used as either a wax stripper or maintenance wash depending on dilution $17 supplies for Tire/Rims: 1 Soft boar hair brush - about $30 1 brush to clean wheel wells - about $10 - 30 for an assortment of brushes sponges to apply tire shine products - $2 - 10 Products for Tire/Rims Wheel degreaser - CG Grime Reaper $17 for a gallon (darn good stuff!) Wheel well darkener (something like Adams In/Out spray)* - CG Barebones is the best so far that I've tried. Tire shine - anything in a gel will last the longest. i found that amorall at walmart has a gel tire dressing thats lasted me about 3 months. only bad thing is that it stays greasy, but shine last.....and i do mean lasts! Blackfire gel I also heard good stuff about. CLAY: The difference between blue and yellow clay is that they differ in aggressiveness in the way they take off contaminants. Blue is more aggressive....but be careful, more aggressive means high chance/ more marring of paint. For clay lube, might as well just buy a gallon of ONR That way you take down shampoo. ONR is super versastile: you got a wash, clay lube, and a qd in your hands!
