Using a brush to wash?

At the risk of sounding like a detailing heathen, I need to ask if there is a long handled brush that can safely be used to wash my black car. I am very picky with my vehicles and would never touch them with a brush but my back is giving me some problems and a none marring brush would be helpful.

The good thing about a brush is that it can be rinsed well as you go around the car and long as the bristles don't scratch it might work.

    Cheers

Hi Mobey. Washing with a brush should be fine if you use a little common sense. No putting the brush down on the ground. Do not leave the brush in your wash bucket unless you have a grit guard in the bottom or the brush will pick up all the dirt off the bottom as a washmitt would. Always use the two bucket method so you can keep the brush as clean as possible. Choose a quality brush with "flagged" ends so its soft. You can get a very nice boars hair brush online at Griots Garage. Its the same one I have. I washed a clients black Harley F350 for over almost two years before it needed any kind of correction work. You will still need a mitt for around the mirrors, grill, etc.

Great....I happen to have a brush with flagged bristles. I think the part that bothers me is the remote feeling you get from working with a long handled brush. Using a wash mit or sponge is "up close and personal" so to speak and you get a better idea how the cleaning is going.

I will cautiously give the brush a try on the lower areas.

    Cheers

yup, Id reccomend the griots flow through brush, it hooks on you your hose and keeps a constant stream of water flowing thought the head to keep the grit out and the paint lubricated, 89.99 i think, nice brush though and griots has amazing customer support, if it ever ever broke i guaruntee they'd send you a new one free of charge. Griots is great!

Well i used a brush for the first time yesterday on my subuaru....Its cold out, and diddnt want to get myhands frozen. I bought my dad a large boars hair brush and handle for his birthday, and gave it a try. It worked very good, and from what i could tell, under my sungun, it didnt leave any apprent marring on the surface...

boars hair with feathered tips is advertised as being fine but it still scares me esp if i had cars with soft clear coats..but it should be fine just test a spot on your car and be careful!!!!!!!!!!!!
