Not sure if this is the correct section but here it goes.

I am not sure how many of you get deep into undercarriage detailing but i have been working on some cars that have smoke damage and the undercarriage's are also to be detailed.

Today i got my butt kicked by a BMW. Its a 1939 and from the looks of it someone used it to go 4 wheeling about 20 years ago.

There are places where the grease/dirt is an inch thick.

The problem i am having is getting it off without chiseling it off with a plastic chisel.

So far i have tried the following
    CG undercarriage cleaner
    Groits undercarriage cleaner
Simple green concentrate (using full strength)

I didnt want to use any kind of wire wheel because i didnt know if it was painted under the dirt.

The car is on a lift so access is not an issue. I would love to use a PW but there are not any floor drains anywhere close to the lift.

Is there any kind of degreaser that is strong enough to cut through 30 year old grime that is a inch thick? Everything i have used only makes a thin layer come off and i have to keep applying and i am burning through a lot of product.

Any ideas or am i screwed and will have to continue with my chisel and a lot of time and product.

I'm not a pro or anything, but i've always had luck with Castrol's Super Clean...not sure if it's any stronger than what you've listed however..

    Good luck.

Ive dabbled in undercarrage detailing. Degreaser is your buddy!! That and a bucket of elbow grease.

See this black stuff under the car... It comes OFF!! With thinners, Bug and tar remover, degreaser and time!

For really heavy work I've used Zep degreaser... note on that product is it WILL leave bare aluminum chalky afterwards...

The thing I really like about Zep is a 30 gallon tank is around $150.... At $5 a gallon it is even harder to beat...

is that a TT with the HICAS?? Is it ever driven? lol

That's one of my favorite cars ... either in pearl white or that yellow pearl they used to offer on the 90 and 91 models.

Have you tried a PW yet? If you have high enough ramps, you can come from an angle at a distance and turn down the pressure and it should work in most of the areas.

Other tough areas would just require some elbow grease. Get those arms moving!
