In a recent order, I picked up an Uber yellow sponge and an Uber red applicator. I had never used a sponge to wash with so this was my first try. On my first use, I used 1z Perls (sorta cross between rinseless and soap since it is not very soapy and does not suds). It was a strange experience since the 1z would just flow out of the sponge as you lifted it out of the bucket so not as much transferred to the paint. It seemed to work fine. On the second use, I used it with PB's SSS and thanks to putting a bit too much soap into the bucket I had too many suds. This time it worked much nicer (at least the feel). Once it gets loaded with suds, it seems to feel like those memory foam mattresses yet you could easily compresses it to flush it out and still would rinse fairly clean. As I said, I never used a sponge before so how much pressure do you guys use? It will not remove some grime unless you a little more pressure since I think the more rigid shape glides over the paint more since does not confirm to surfaces like wool mitts, etc. That is, I assume the sponge using a sheering action to clean (soap loosens) instead of a "sweeping (like a broom)" action like wool mitts, mf towels, and the dreadlock style mitts. Anyone else have a better analogy? As for the Uber red notched applicator, I used it as well and I really like this thing. It really help applying a llquid sealant quickly. There was enough to grap on to to keep it moving without slipping out of your hands. It also seemed to have a nice density so you could prime it a lot and spread it evenly and thinly.:thumb: With the yellow foam applicators, I have either kept a thumb under one edge or tried to palm it. I compared the foam cell structure of the red foam and it appears to be about the same as my blue CCS pads. I also picked up some blue applicators for applying dressings but have not had a chance to use them yet.
try this with yellow applicatos http://www.detailingbliss.com/forum/f75/dd-yellow-wax-applicators-12883.html
Use the uber sponge for the first time last week, and i really like it alot. I typically use a boars hair body brush and schmitt mitt.
Uber sponge or Zymol sponge is all I use. Works great, and see no reason to use anything else. I use a normal amount of pressure, never had any issues! I always use either CG Citrus Wash 'n Gloss or Duragloss 902.
I used to own two schmitt mitts and they were ok. I didn't like the fact that the glue started failing after a few uses (even though I was gentle with them). I got one uber sponge and I love it. Pro-Line grout sponges are a close second, but the ubers hold more water and the foam is not as stiff making it easier to hold and control.
I had the same experience with the Schmitts, and they were often awkward to hold. Also, them being so big, I often would miss spots as it wouldn't reach everywhere properly.
really i had mine for about half a year with no problems at all with the glue, and that was with weekly washes. I had to finally throw it away cause i washed a car with all this tar crap on it and it really messed up the mitt and didnt want to hassle with it.
I use to use the Schmitt and had one fall apart on me but they replaced it no questions asked then I moved to GG MF Pad and now I am using uber sponges and love them. I like them alot better than the schmitt as i dont have to put my hand on it so i can get get into tight spots and it is soft to it forms to edges and curves better.
The Prolin Grout Sponge feels absolutely fantastic though, fits perfectly in my palms and is very soft. It released dirt into the rinse bucket like no other wash media i've ever used.
