Uber foam pads: to buy or not to buy?

Situation: I have a GG 6" buffer with the backing plate, and just bought the Megs DA MF system with their W67DA 5.5" backing plate. Planning on using the MF system this weekend on our '05 Sienna van.

Dilemma: on our 8 month old '11 Toy Avalon the paint is in excellent condition. I want to use a light polish before a sealant in preparation for winter. I don't know if the MF system would be appropriate for this paint. I have a couple of other light polishes I can use and was thinking the Uber foam pads might be better than the MF pads as far as the end result. Additionally, I've read excellent comments about the Ubers with some saying they'll give a better final look than the MF pads.

Anyone care to comment on whether the Ubers would be a useful buy? I'm thinking of getting the blue glaze/final polish & black wax/sealant finishing, should I get the green polish pad as well? And will the 5 1/2" ones operate OK on the Megs BP or should I get the 6" to use with the GG BP?

And finally, am I making a mountain out of a mole hill? Thanks, Joe.

The green Ubers are a great pad, and you can use them for light and finish polishes. Blue ones are final only, IMO they are too soft to really do much but to jewel it up. The whole line of pads are great, as most others here can tell you. I haven't used Megs MF system, my Ubers do what I need them to do just fine :)

Uber Green and Uber yellow are two of the best pads i have ever used. Plus they have pretty cool names.

Green is for final polishing with 106FA or 85rd

    Yellow is for M105

Yellow, Green, and Blue Ubers in 5.5". They work great and should last you a long time.

    Yellow -- I use M105 or Powergloss

    Green -- I use 203S, M205, 106FA

    Blue -- I use 85RD, Autoglym SRP

Just a FYI Autodetailingsolutions buff and shine pads are the same pads, but the Uber have ink on the backing material(which may or may not be an issue for you). ADS has awesome pricing on them sometimes.

Are the Uber Orange Pads even worth it? Or is all you need is the Yellow, Green, and black?

Depends on what kind of pad you like and the paint systems you work on.

I find that I prefer firm pads for certain paints and I use a ton of Orange foam(Buff and shine, LC, etc) in general for a myriad of stuff all the way down to one step corrections. I find they grip the paint less for certain things.

Depends 100% on what you are doing, and the results you want to achieve. I have some of each... and they all have their uses.

IMO, the yellows are better than orange. The orange pad is rigid and harder to use on curved surfaces. You'll likely follow up both with green or white anyways, so my idea was just go with what's easier to use. The cut levels are similar from what I've seen.

I have not used the Uber pads but I have been using a lot of Buff and Shine pads and I use Yellow, Green and Black

The uber green has got to be one of the most useful pads out there. For some of us weekend warriors who maintain our cars well or have have customers who only ask for a one step correction the green pad is the way to go. You can make it as aggressive and gentle as you need it. IMO the uber green pad paired with Power Finish or Prima Swirl is a knockout combo. If it were me I would stock up on green pads, but again like everyone mentioned you want to try and plan for future usage so a blue uber and orange uber might be handy down the line.

Thanks for your comments and suggestions everyone, I appreciate it. I just ordered the 5 pack of Uber pads here on DD with 25 minutes left on a sale, plus the 20% Labor discount. Look forward to using them.

I love my Uber pads, best I've ever owned. The only one I'd stay away from is the orange one. I find it too stiff, and with the yellow one, it's not really needed.

Right on the money. If I could only keep one combo, it would be the Uber green with Power Finish. It's what I always reach for first. Second favorite is the Uber blue with 85RD. Amazing.

I think one of the other perks about these pads that a lot of people forget about are the ease of cleaning and the strength they have. All too often after a few cleanings the backs start to come off and you mine as well toss em. A quick hit with APC and a hose, a quick spin-dry with the rotary, and these things are ready to go again.

I have used Adams, SM Arnold, LC, and Buff and Shine. B&S, or Uber pads are THE BEST pads out there. I ordered 4 yellow, green, and blue from ADS and will be getting more soon. However, I haven't really found a use for the Blue ones...I got them initially to apply wax and sealant but find that I much more enjoy applying those items by hand instead. If anyone wants 3 of them, let me know as they are still in the wrappers!
