I have been using my PCxp for almost 3 years now. In the past I have primarily done my own vehicles but in the last 2 years I began to do others on the side for customers. I have been contemplating upgrading to a rotary for a while now but am not sure if I need to, due to new tech for DA appliction. If I do upgrade I have my eye on the Flex PE14-2-150. So what is everyones opinon? Any and all advice is appreciated. Thanks

Prepare to spend alot of quality time with the rotary before you put it near anyone's car.

I started with a XC3401 Flex and later bought a PE14-2 (with the 09553 3M backing plate). The rotary is ALOT quieter when it operates. I don't even need earplugs for it because it's so quiet and smooth.

However, the feel of the two machines is COMPLETELY different. I started out by practicing on my bathroom sink (haha) and later got some body panels (a fender and a hood). It really takes time to understand how much pressure you need to apply with the rotary and what speeds work best.

The PE14-2 is an excellent machine, I am sure you will love it.

I agree, you really should practice befvore doing a clients car. But I was in the same boat as you. But it really was not at all hard to learn and I became proficient quite quick. Really not as bad as everyone makes it seem

I would suggest starting wit ha soft polishing pad like the uber green.... it's alot easier to grip the paint. Just to get a feel for it. Then you can go t oa stiffer foam pad like an orange or yellow which in my experience is more tricky.

I have always used Rotary Power for the initial cut to correct, and finish down. Its way faster to correct, and leaves the absolute best finish in my opinion. I have both Makita 9227C and the new Flex PE14-250, and the new Flex while expensive, came with a few things including the nice black carry bag. Its way lighter and smaller in length, and easy to move around panels. You might have to use a little more pressure than the Makita because the Makita seems to be so much heavier compared to this machine. This machine does not go to 3000, so its not as effective at drying pads as the Makita..
I like it fine; will only use my Flex 3401VRG to jewel or apply a glaze before LSP. I also like to use my smaller PC Meguiars G110V2 on front bumpers, lights, smaller things that I can correct easily on speed 6.
I know that Meguiars has these new microfiber pads and polishes that are supposed to do just as good, etc., but I have not tried them yet. I like what I get from Rotary power.
