I currently have a 06 Evo IX SE< considered in the evo community as one of the rawest most desirable models built. I can attest to the rawness it has a steering wheel and 5spd. That's about it(the Recaros are really nice though). I have it slightly modified engine and suspension, it puts down 360-380 awhp on a mustang dyno, handling is razor sharp. I am considering moving to a euro, I would like to keep the performance aspects of the evo with more creature comforts. A lot of guys move from evo's to 911's or GTR's both are to costly for my budget. I could pick up a 911 but I don't think I could afford cost of ownership. I'm in the 40-50K budget. Can anyone suggest some cars I should consider? open to foreign and domestic AWD is a must. thanks
Older 911 Turbos (early 2000's) can be bought at a remarkable discount right now. But if cost of ownership is a problem, it might make sense to find a local shop that works predominately with German cars rather then a dealership. It also doesn't hurt to scour the many forums and see how much parts cost through aftermarket companies or through forum vendors. Porsche tends to be much more reasonable when it comes to cost of parts then many other European companies with high end vehicles.
For that price range with an interest in european, I'd go with either an Audi S4 or Bmw 1 series M. The S4 is a great upgrade because it provides more luxury interior in comparison to the evo, still 4 door, and is all wheel drive. Not to mention it pushes 333 hp with a supercharged V-6 engine. As for the bmw 1 series M, it is a coupe and rwd, but it looks to be one hell of a fun car. Not to mention it run's quarter mile times in the low 12 second range stock. Power is almost equivalent to the Audi S4 pushing around 335 with a turbocharged (twin I believe) inline 6. Just my two cents..... EDIT: Might also want to look into the new Mercedes CLA AMG soon to be released. All wheel drive with 354 hp 2.0 liter turbocharged.
Squeeze a few dollars more out of your budget and get into a S5 ($53,000), paired with their six speed manual it is just about as much fun as you can have driving. S4 is also a worthy option if you need 4 doors. Quatro is simply amazing, and the handleing on audis is the best out bar-none
The S4 is nice i have been looking at them for a while likely the route I will go, I have a spare meth kit on the shelf or I will move the aquamist kit from the evo. S5 is great to I should have mentioned 4 doors as well. Looking at a Mini countryman i feel it would be a fun car to modify. I have been in the bmw 1 series its a little to small for me, I do love the lines on that car. There is a good chance I will garage the evo it might be to tough for me to let it go, it really is a fun car to drive.
Id vote for the S4, or even a A4 with the stasis package. Some dealers offer it, some do not. Only reason why I say A4 versus S4 is simply the intial cost, but depends on if you are buying brand new, CPO, private party etc. Worth doing the research. STaSIS Signature Series A4 2.0 (2009+) | STaSIS ::: Race Bred Adrenaline Or just get the S4 and Stasis package STaSIS Signature Series S4 3.0 (2010+) | STaSIS ::: Race Bred Adrenaline 410 Hp is nothing to sneeze at
My client just got a Audi RS4 Quattro. Awd v8 with about 430hp stock. Car is bitch'n. I'm thinking about one myself.
Holly crap. Did a little research. What's the release date and pice on the AMG? 354hp 331 ft lbs of trq All wheel drive And all this from a 2.0L 4cylinder motor. Damn! I may hold out for that lol
No doubt the StaSIS is a mean looking machine, I don't think they fall within my budget or at least the package I would want. I'm just trying to get some ideas to kick around from some guys who have more exposure to euro machines. Don't have to be new Im ok with used - cpo I just looked at the AMG wow it is very appealing to me, needs to be lowered a little looks a like 4x4. but I really like it. I wonder where the boost comes in 3k-4k? my 2.0 has nothing down low 2.0's make all there power up top.
im going to be completely honest. Your not going to be happy with the MINI. I hate to say it but it is true. I cannot wait to get rid of my clubman this year at the end of the lease. Mini has lost their way, i had an 06 Mini S and it was amazing, nimble and just plain fun. My 11 clubman, not so much, to put it simply its boring to drive. mini now focuses to much on consumer reports and the ratings the grocery getters are giving them. to give you an idea Next years f56 model will not have a center speedo, a trade mark of mini forever because of constant bashing from reviewers. Save your money and go with the S4
Have you looked into anything from Volvo? It seems like they have really stepped up their performance.
I have i like the new model. The s60 is a nice car, I dont think the aftermarket has to much to offer since its so new. It looks really nice the seats are excellent lv the stitching.
From the Big 3 you don't have many choices with AWD: Taurus SHO Charger RT Chrysler 300C Grand Cherokee SRT8 SHO doesn't have enough interior room IMO. Loved the 300 SRT8 (no awd) but it is big and heavy although I felt it braked and handled well for a big car. Know a bunch of GC SRT8 guys, with simple mods running mid-low 11's and they love them. All the cars mentioned have a decent market for performance parts and upgrades. On the other hand, I echo with others have said about the S4, A4, or RS4. There is also the G37 X awd, not sure about the aftermarket on the Infiniti.
If ford offered the focus awd, for me its a no brainer focus all day long. I dont think Ford want to offer a hatch that out runs its pony car. The other " muscle cars " are cool and i love to hear them rumble, just not my cup of tea. The G37 is very plush, i think is shares the same engine as the 370 expensive to add forced induction. The Rs4 is a great option, i was looking at PES supercharger ouch!!! Big boy money lol.
I dont know to much about modifiying these particular cars, i do know methanol injection will work with the S4 how does a and APR tune know the fuel curve, air fuel ratio and timing to take out ? < little off topic but curious to understand how it works.
