I thought it was about time I posted up some of my work, this job was just begging to be posted up! So enjoy. I was asked down to Paintshield’s lush new premises in Peterborough UK, to help with the finishing off of there latest development car. Typically Paintshield deal with the fitting of very high quality paint protection films. (Clear bras) Most cars have the front end covered, bonnet, wings, front bumper, front of the wing mirrors, great for stopping stone chips and the film can even be detailed and waxed. They’ve even covered whole cars before including there own Orange Porsche Boxster. So I was expecting another new clear film, how wrong was I!! I’ll let the pictures do the talking! Take one mint Ferrari 360 Stadale in Red and wrap it in Paint! Yes you read correctly paint! A brand new product a vinyl film that is painted at the factory, its mad! It even smells like paint and has a clear coat that can be detailed, I’ve had a sample of this film on my van for a couple of weeks now, the idea was to find out what was possible before finishing the Ferrari. I’ve buffed it with a pc and rotary up to a cutting pad! I’ve even wet sanded a section then re-polished it to a great finish. It is amazing stuff! Paintshield: xpeleu.com The film: wrapwithpaint.com Enjoy the pictures, Kind regards, Roy. Car had to be part dismantled to allow the film to be fitted around the edges. Gary and Joe from Paintshield at work. Door openings wrapped as well! Stradle style carbon stripe added. Some polished shots, check out the flake :thumb: Myself in action :thumb: A few finished shots with the car back together.
No this is hopefully fully reversible with no damage to the paint under the film, so a customers can choose to have a mad finish (candy apple red and Lamborghini bright green are my current favourites) that can be removed if they later decide to sell the car. I think the Ferrari is currently at Monaco, when it’s back there going to have the car in to recover the front bumper, more development to improve the fit, so we’ll see how the film comes off. Regards, Roy.
I was wondering when someone was going to go as far as wrapping an entire car like that, atleast I seen it first on a ferrari!!
I wasn’t there for the full process, but it took best part of a week I believe. Things like splitting the headlights to fit the film took quite a bit of time. They made some templates as they went, so soon they’ll have a Ferrari 360 kit. So installation on the next one should be quicker. Regards, Roy.
WOW I never heard of protection of this type, thanks for the post I learned something new today that's for sure.
i dont always read all the write up at top and look at the pics first so i had to take a second look as i was confused with the polishing going on thinking it was a normal vynil coat, how wrong was i! thats a very inovative way of changing the colour of the car and being able to change it back. nice to see another brit on here. are you one of the swissvax detailers? i was trained by tony spears who trained majority of the SW detailers. nice work roy:thumb:
Hi Scott, Well spotted, yes I was a Swissvax detailer up until about a month ago. (Not had a chance to get new work shirts made yet!) I had five great years with them. The door’s always open should I wish to return. I’m just having a little fun being an independent for a while. It’s already created some new opportunities that has improved my business. Including offers from other wax manufactures :thumb: I’ve worked with Tony in the passed at Swissvax, he’s a good guy. Regards, Roy.
Thanks for sharing, that is some incredible work! I've seen a few wrapped cars at some recent car shows and it seems to be the new trend now. However, wraps are pretty costly (just as much as a good paint job) but if you can save the OEM paint, it's a great idea.
i think working alongside a big name can boost your profile and i think its brill that your going independant. theirs always plenty more companies that will back you up if your work is of high standard which looks to me that it is.:thumb: just wished i could get the break and get my name out there more but thats all part of the goal:thumb:
At the moment it’s still at the development stage, so the prices are not yet confirmed. It’s going to cost more than your standard vinyl, but less than say a house of colour re-spray, and should be totally reversible. Regards, Roy.
Scott, It’s not always easy getting going, I got my first few big customers from going to big club meets and events, doing demos, entering customers cars in the Concours. That sort of thing will get you noticed by the people that may interested in your work. Regards, Roy.
wtf lol. that is nuts. i think they do about same for gumball run here in usa and stuff to project cars during racing on roads(yes its illegal but rich ppl do it anyway)
