Well I finally decided to purchase a lens :woo: boy who knew choosing a lens would be so difficult. Oh and I found out that picking a brand name is just as bad as choosing a wax, so many brand names out there and they all have an "image" to them too. When I say image I mean that certain brands give the "image" of status apperently

Now if your wondering what promted the lens purchase, well to be honest Divine did. Not that my kit lense on my XTi isn't good enough it's just that the more you learn the more you want to try things out and learn some more...okay enough :bla2: :bla2: now for the lens:

    Yes, I went with a Sigma EX 10-20mm F4-5.6

Now I'm not completely sold on this lens so I purhcased it but told the sales man that I may be back if I'm disapointed with this lens...but here is one of the reasons why I purhcased this one:
 10 year waranty  Cannon is only 1 year warranty

Now the other reason why I brought this lens home is this:

Well for me it came down to the Cannon 12-24mm (the magazine says Cannon 10-20mm that's a typo ) Vs the Sigma 10-20mm and I had both len's on my XTi and played around with both and I couldn't see a difference between the Cannon and the Sigma  One big difference was the price, the other was that the Sigma is just a bit wider then the Cannon but I never imagined that picking a lens would be so tough :thud:

Any who, I brought home the Sigma to play around with this weekend, salesman told me I have a maximum of 10 days to play around with the Sigma and if for what ever reason I didn't like it I can just take it back and get the Cannon...I still couldn't see a difference but I figured I'd give the Sigma a shot

Oh this lens will be used to show Divine bathing in the sun...that is if we get some sun :waiting: :waiting2:

Well just thougth I'd share and if you guys have any feed back about the two lens pelase let me know :thumb:

mmmmmuuuuuuuaaaaahhhhhhhhaaaaaa  If you thought I took pictures before wait till I start with this lens :woo: :woo:

I agree, I don't want to deal with the warranty but the nice thing is that all I have to do is take it back to where I purchased it and I get a new one :thumb: Another advantage of purchasing localy I guess ....well that's what they the sales man told me and I got it in writing...just in case

Oh and I finally got to play with a polorizer, not just any polorizer, aperently one of the best polorizers:

B+W 77mm MRC Circular Polarizer Filter

Now B+W is one of the top dogs when it comes to Polarizers and boy was I ever blown a way with this Polarizer, here check these pictures out that I took:

    No polorizing effect:
Just look at the glare of the lights on the glass counter.

    Now polorized:
    Glare, what glare :what: :what:

I was blown away with the difference :woo: :woo: I'll be getting my self this polorizer...just need to do some more reading on it by before Friday I'll have it :giggle:

Congrat Nica on the new lens. I'm sure you'll be happy with it as many people use it with no problems. I think there was only 1 lens that was better, the Tokina because of the fixed aperture, f/4 IIRC. Otherwise, the Canon 10-22, Sigma 10-20, Tokina 12-24, and Tamron 11-17 were very similar.

Now you don't have to stand so far away from the cars to take great pics huh! :picture:

    Congrats!

10-20mm is wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide. I have been meaning to pick something up in that focal length range. Let us know how you like it.

The B+W MRC circular polarizer is a good choice. It is what I use. I have three different sizes.

Be sure you test the polarizer on the 10-20 at its widest before you purchase. From what I have read, on very wide angle lenses the lens can wind up seeing your polarizer if it is a standard model (it is too thick). As a result you get darkness at the edges of the photo.

This may not be a problem for your combination of lens/camera, but its worth a check. If it is a problem you will have to get a "slim" polarizer. It is exactly the same, but much thinner and without threads on the front for other filters (or lens caps).

Looking forward to some shots with your new glass!

Is this what we call a fisheye lens? I can`t find something similar for my Nikon :(

 yes that's correct sorry Cannon is 10-22mm thank you :thumb:, how do you like the Cannon weesped? I'd like your honest opinion about the Cannon please :peace:

Oooh thanks for the tip there tod, I saw there Tokina but the two people I consulted (co-worker who's a hard core photographer and my other friend who takes photos for a living) suggested I either go with Cannon or Sigma, well to start they suggested that as my skills progress I try other lens out too. Man I read so many reviews, I'm just glad Google exists lol. Thank you for the tip though and yes I'm looking forward to not standing so fara way from the vehicle and being able to capture more with this lens :headbang:

Just curious tod, have you used the Tokina or the Tamron? I honestly didn not read anythign up on those lens? Any info would be greatly appreciated :thumb:

Thank you brianja, yes I was warned about the polarizer and the wide angle lens. The polarizer I used worked just fine with the Sigma lens but that's why I didn't purhcase it right there and then becuase I wanted to read up a bit more on it. I didn't ask to see the slim polarizer though and I've been doing a bit of reading on them and I think your right, with the Sigma 10-20mm and the B+W MRC circular polarizer I don't think I'll have any issues but I'm getting second opinions.

I can't wait to snap some pictures of the Volvo with this lens :cheerl:

Well same idea as a fisheye lens pirex, just with out the distortion that's all, well there will be some distortion but not as bad as a fisheye. I know Nikon has one I just can't remember the model or specs....:shead:...I read a review about it actually...I'll check the magazine I got...I know I read it :shead:

    Tokina 12-24 f/4

    Tamron 11-18mm

You can find the rest of the reviews on Fred Miranda Reviews

I have the Tamron 11-17mm. It was the only lens I could find locally in Hawaii and could "touchy-feely". I like it alot, very clean shots and was cheaper than the Canon 10-22mm. Couldn't tell that much of a difference back then, so I went with the Tamron.

I think the only lens I would upgrade to would be the Tokina 12-24 because of the f/4. But I just picked up a 17-40L lens and can't see buying another lens just to fill the 12-17mm gap.
