Well I just completed a full paint correction on a 2008 Infinity G35xS and I finally came accros this sticky paint issue I've read so much about and let me tell you it's extremely frustrating but very interesting. It was a big challenge but very rewarding as well.

Well yes, I made a video of the issue I was having with this sticky clear coat :thumb:

Now I tried everything I had in my personal detailing arsenal and as some of you know I do have quite a bit in my collection but majority of the products I posses in my collection were no match to the sticky clear coat. The only product that worked but still gave me a hard time was 3M UK products combined with the Sonus SFX pads.

You can see the full writ up here, it will explain the process much better:

Any who the purpose of the video is to show you what you can expect from this sticky clera coat issue, like I said I've only read about this issue from some UK detailers but now that I've experianced it for my self it's quite the grooling to do any kind of paint correction.

    Hope you find this usefull.

If any of you have any questions feel free to ask, I'll do my best to answer it....that and I'm sure others that have had experiance with this sticky clear coat issue will share there opinion as well.

    Enjoy.

That was crazy man. Someone needs to come up with a polish designed for this type of cc. Is this the famous self-corrective cc?

Thanks for sharing Carlos. I haven't had my Metabo overheat on me yet and I hope it never does but I'm sure it WILL happen some time. Thread's updated.

I would be curious to see what M80 would do. I really like how more oily polishes work on clear coats like this. haha Kind of makes me wish I got a G instead of an accord....

How does the blue Sonus pad finish? The pad seems a little too hard to finish compared to the softer 3m blue pad.

Yea it was something, I enjoyed it..but now I need to order more products to try out and see if I can match a polish to these sticky clear coats. I'm not sure if it is the self-corrective cc...the 2008 models are supposed to have it but I'll have to talk to Gerry (my friend who owns his own autobody shop) about this and see what he has to say about it.

Oh the Metabo overheating is not a big deal, mine hasen't over heated for a long time now. Just use small pads no bigger then 6.5 inches, preferably 5inches work bets with the Metabo...but like you saw some times even using the proper pads will over heat the Metabo...when my Metabo does over heat, I just sit it down on my stool and let it run for several minutes so it cools it's self down after that your good to go.

Yea I wish I had the bottle of M105 that I ordered from Chris but it's curently at Mikes house  It sure was an interesting detail to say the least :thumb: These Infinitys are quite nice :druling:

On this vehicle the Sonuse finishing pad finished great, on soft clear coat's it dosen't finish so well, for softer clear coats I'd rather use the 3M UK Blue pad as they are much softer but looks like on hard clear coats the Sonus is a way to go

Phil was telling me about this was an issue with not letting the clear fully cure before putting on the protective plastic......

He did not have fun. I have turned down 7 G37s to this date because of it!

I honestly don't have a clue about this sticky clear coat  but I'll see what I can find out when I get a chance to visit Gerry :thumb:

Really, Menzerna has never acted up on me...well not to this extreme, it was quite fun though :cheerl:

Thank you for sharing porta, I'll have to remember what worked for you :peace:

JohnyB, you know what it actually may be. The reason I say that is because it was obviously a bear to work with but it was extremely hard to induce any kind of micro marring. I mean in some areas just for kicks I rubbed (yes rubbed) the paint with my palm and even then it wouldn't induce any kind of micro marring.

I honestly don't know though, but I'll be visiting Gerry soon but then again he may not know either as he usually works with exotics . I also have two more 2008 Infinity’s coming my way, hopefully I'll be able to compare the other two with this one.

    Fortunately there is a solution

Parrafin oil and a hint of glycerin
I've come across many sticky clears in my day and the way to have fun doing these paints is keeping them warm, not hot

Adding a blob of parrafin oil to your pad before starting to polish and then doing as as per normal will help in keeping the temp down and prevent the paint from getting hot and sticking

You can do that or actually add 80ml or more of parraffin and glycerin to a small bottle of menzerna or other brand polish

I've done both but actually prefer to just put a small blob on each pad before I start

That gets a whole panel or two covered before you need to add more

Japanese cars have sticky clears most of the time, thougha model or two from the ford made Jaguars have it in a fine amount as well

So you mean Kerosene then? Interesting.

    Yes, interesting indeed

    No I mean parrafin oil

Surely you canadians and americans have parrafin oil in your hardware stores
Kerosene is no good in this case, that dries too fast

    I use diggers brand

I'll have to give this a try and yes I'm sure I can get my hands on parrafin oil...just curious though and this may be a silly question but just got to ask, does this parrafin oil, is there a chance it would fill/hide the swirls/scratches? Just wondering that's all that and I know nothing about the oil my self.

    Nope, not at all

Just work it down fine like normal
Do a prepsol wipedown and you will see that nothing is hidden

parrafin oil in the US is mineral oil.

What mixture of mineral oil and glycerin would one use to prime a pad for sticky paint?
