Here's a little info for true Honda heads. This first bit of news is actually saddening to me, as I had owned one of these cars in the past. And I want to get another one. Ten years of the Honda S2000 production and a farewell to the last S2000 produced – S2KI - Honda S2000 Community A secret track in Ohio? Google Maps rocks!!! Honda test facility duplicates Tsukuba Circuit in Ohio? — Autoblog Looks wicked from above, don't ya think?
This is a big big bummer...first the cancellation of the new NSX and now no more S2K... I wonder what will replace it
The s2000 is probably the most balanced car that I've had the pleasure of driving. It's too bad they're not continuing with it. In my opinion there was only one thing that car suffered from and it was a lack of torque, but what can you expect from a small 4 cyl. I think they pumped out as much power as they could from such a small displacement motor.
I believe that track is in between their car and motorcycle factory in OH (close to Columbus). I had the chance to visit their engine plant in Troy, OH. I always wanted to work there, but it never happened ...
The only thing that makes me sad is that I wasn't in a position to trade my 2004 in on a new one. But it's just as well - my current S2000 is like a child to me. It is one of the last cars built in the Tochigi NSX plant. I'm very attached to it. It's an absolutely glorious handler. It's not uncommon for mine to be set fastest time of the day at local autocrosses. And it's in stock class trim, so very little has been done in the way of modifications. The engine isn't for everybody. I usually tell folks that it's a "different kind of fast." A Mustang (just for example) will kick you in the back with its low-end torque; an S2000 will rev like a sport bike. Two ways of going fast, each of them different. It's bittersweet. 10 years is a long time for a car to be in production, particularly by Honda standards. I'd love to be able to buy a new one next year, but low mileage, well cared for examples are all over the place. When I bought mine, it had 13K miles on it and was three years old.
This is a shame to hear, the S2K is beast to drive. Hopefully Honda will replace it with something (anything) unlike they did with the NSX. And that track looks wicked! I'd love to take my 545i out there!
