Something thats cheap effective and over the counter is just your regular old Kerosene/diesel fuel or oderless mineral spirits.

Autosmart Tardis. pm Nica about it. Awesome stuff.

If you want to go grab something off the shelf, try 3M adhesive cleaner.

3M adhesive remover, Tardis. 1Z Deep Plastic Cleaner also doubles as a good tar remover on exteriors (little known fact).

Get some Xylene from a home improvement store or a auto body shop. Xylene and mineral spirits is what makes up Tardis, but I have found that Xylene will work just as well at taking off tar but you can mid a 50/50 mix of Xylene and mineral spirits and have a home made tardis.

Yes I know, but it is a major part of Tardis also. So just remember anyone who uses it or adhesive removers to always wear chemical safe gloves. When I use it I wear chem safe gloves with liners, and wear a mask and always work outside and wash my hands well after use. I dont like using it much but when I do you can never be too careful with powerful solvents.

I've tried Tarminator on Sap but fortunately have yet to try it on tar or road paint. I've been very happy with its performance thus far.
