I have two as-of-yet unused Swissvax wheel brushes. The handles seem to be bare uncoated wood. Since they're going to get wet in use, should I coat the handles with something like varnish or shellac to protect the wood, or is that unnecessary? Not sure if shellac or varnish is the right thing to coat wood against water, it's just the two names that come to mind.
I've been using my SV brush without any issues with the handles becoming wet or submerged in water for periods at a time. I've had my brush for 5 months already and have been using it on average about 1-2 a month.
overtime wood absorbs your body's oils as a natural protectant/sealant. its healthy, and looks great once it gets some use. i don't see a problem with wash water harming the wooden handle.
Good question, when I got my stash of Swissvax brushes I had two of my brushes protected with varnish (I beleave) and it does help, the brush is well over a year old now and it's still going strong, wood handle looks looks great too...oh the only thing that cracked is the read plastic around the brush but it's still intact and I keep on using it.
If I were you and it made you more comfortable it can only help. I plan on adding this brush to my collection and adding protection to it...Just because it is such a nice brush...:thumb:
I have left my swissvax brushes outside for the past 6 months, and often they just sit in submerged in water. No issues yet!
