Hello everyone, been lurking here for a while now, migrated from autopia first I would like to thank Phil from Detailers Domain, most of my supplies from his inventory a great guy to deal with and is always going beyond your average customer service. This car had basically minor paint imperfections the once caused by cloth rubbing as you can see in some of my pictures the garage with the edition of the wide new 2008 X5 4.8 made it much smaller than I hoped, but thats what I had to deal with and also some touch up on the right mirror that was all swirled up from a clean bra installation a while ago before I got it professionally done, so I had to remove that plastic piece to polish under it. a touch up on the hood as will which was then let to dry and sanded with 2000Grit wet and spot polished with 4" spot orange pad / SIP on the rotary. This M6 has a soft paint like no other at times, but can be considered medium-fine clear. not much of paint to play around with in here because of previous "pro" detailer work it did take out a fair amount of clear, so I had to use the Flex where I felt it was needed but mainly rotary with white pad 85rd mix with SIP /rotary with 3M blue and ultrafina SE. The whole process took me a week to finish as I wanted to make sure it is 100% and there was no need to rush it. I am waiting for Phil to ship me Swissvax Mystery when he gets it this week, I will be removing the LSP which is FK 2180 toped with FK Pinkwax; I will also include a mini review of the CR Spotless DC40 unit that I just received from Phil. Here is the picture Before Before After1 After2 LSP done CR Spotless setup with 2 filters Pressure washer with foam canon using Karcher connector
Thanks I tried my best and took my time with this, if anything this detail tough me, on black cars with out a 3M Sungun you really are wasting your time unless you work in the sun. acually thats why it took me this long, under halogens it seemed perfect but a sun gun pass and you start seeing more imperfection so I made sure the gun with 2 batteries was used in every panel.
So far the finish looks great. Can you see holograms with the sungun? Viewing holograms is the only thing I need the real sun for when working on black. So how much CC is left on the paint or what is the total thickness of the coatings?
Thats what I have been seeing under the sungun which halogens didn't even come close to pick up; The sungun shines when you have it away from the paint at an angle it shows then everything, also marring and even swirls were not visible with halogens as you can see from my pictures. If you decide on the Sungun make sure to get an extra batteries because this thing does eat energy. When I last did the paint reading before the paid job polishing, it had anywhere from 100MM to I think as low as 60's MM even lower in some places Edit: is it MM or UM? I got to get me one of those paint readers LanceM, Thanks, I learned allot from you guys
