My wife and I took delivery of an '09 GMC Acadia last night and you all know what my initial thoughts are. How soon can I polish this thing out and get some protection on it? It has a build date of August 2008, so technically the paint's at most 20-25 days old. Is the rule of thumb to still wait 90 days before waxing new cars from build date? I'll post up some pics this weekend in the Auto Bliss section of it, but wanted to get going on it this weekend. Thanks.
Congradulations, What a great feeling that is. Did they put any wax on it for delivery? just so you know, I am a rebel. I have always detailed my new cars right away and never had any negative effects. It just added to my excitement of my new car. but thats just me.
If it was my car I would hit it with some 85 RD with a white LC pad and put a glaze on it to give it some protection until the 90 days are up. Congrats on the new truck.:thumb:
I'm not sure if i follow. Wax-85RD- glaze. It all gets into the pores of the paint and makes it hard to breath doesn't it. I just had to be a rebel. now i'm confused.
No need to wait on new car paint. It is baked from the factory and ready to go. I would wash clay(to remove any rail dust or debris from transport to dealer), use a polish like 85RD on a blue pad, and your choice of LSP-wax or sealant, and you will be ready to go.
Thanks for the advice, guys. It looks like it had been washed a few times at the dealer. there are some very light swirls on it in just a few areas that only folks on this board would really notice. Need to work over the interior as well and hit it with some Cockpit Premium and 1z Leather for a mild cleanup and conditioning. I was thinking a white pad and 106FA or 85 would do the trick on the Flex 3401 after claying. Not sure what I'm going to use for LSP yet. Might stick with my standard Collinite's 845 with going into winter. Thanks again everybody for the quick feedback.
I never mentioned wax in my reply. You can safely polish new paint and follow up with a glaze. I do it all the time and have not had a single issue. I know GM will polish out minor defects in freshly painted panels as they go down the line. The only products that will not let the paint breath are sealants and waxes. :thumb:
Factory paints are baked on are are ready for you to mess with as soon as you can. Aftermarket paints (resprays) are typically 30 -45 days to allow the solvents to dissipate but can be polished safely, just no wax. I would hit it with 106FF or 85RD and a blue or black pad and then LSP of your choice.

I only have a couple of blue pads currently (CCS 6.5"), but have plenty of white pads. Would a blue pad and 106FA/85RD on a Flex 3401 be good enough to remove some very light swirling from improper washing? If so, then I might have to wait until next week after I order some more blues. Thanks again for all the feedback.
I would wait till next spring to polish as it will encure some swirls over the winter...so that way you will just have to polish it once next yer.... you can seal the paint any time as new cars have a UV baked on process..so its cured before it leaves the factory... wax or seal now if you want to AL
Use the blue pad with a finishing polish, save the white pads for sip or something else that is equal to sip.
Yeah, I was kind of thinking that as well. After washing it today I ended up spending most of the time working on the interior. Did a Cockpit Premium wipedown, vacuumed, and started on the leather. Dang, this thing is huge!!!
