As some of you might have already read and my user name kind of gives it away I just bought a new Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution in Mercury Gray Metallic which from what I have read has soft paint. So I am ordering most of the supplies that should tie me over as this is my first polish. So I am ordering as far as exterior is concerned: Sonax PF Sonax NPS Griots 6" with 10 pads (thinking 4 greens, 2 oranges, 2 blues, 1 black, and 1 yellow) Menzerna top inspection Über hex grip applicator Nanoskin fine pad I was thinking since the paint doesn't appear too bad with swirls etc. That I will do the two bucket wash with dawn from what I read, then dry use my Adams QD with the nanoskin, wash and dry, then use the PF with a green pad on a speed around 5 starting at 1, then use top inspection, and then apply NPS with hand applicator in small areas and remove quickly. Any thoughts/help would be appreciated
I would get some Microfiber pads cut much faster will save you time. The one key in using MF pads is keeping them clean and cool.
I think if you are getting Sonax Profiline Perfect Finish, you will not need anything else to get the paint really clean, clear, and very glossy. This product has a cut of 4 out of 6 and a gloss of 6 out of 6. I use it all the time and it is absolutely fabulous for so many reasons. If you think your paint is on the soft side, you will need to be careful with it and if the paint gets too hot, it may want to get "grabby" with your pad or wipe off microfiber towels. This will be your signal to adjust your process to make less friction on the paint, by adjusting your downward pressure and speed. Lastly, if you are getting Sonax Polymer Net Shield, you are getting some really, really, great product that will amp up the gloss and leave a very nice layer of protection that should last a long time. I recently used both products mentioned above on a Jet Black 1997 528 that had never been detailed in 174,xxx miles, and it turned out stunning and the Sonax Polymer Net Shield keeps the finish really clean even after over a month of sitting outside getting dusty and rained on. Every time it rains on it, it is covered in very small, uniform, water beads that all fall off the car and leave it pretty darn clean for not ever touching it since the Detail. No water spotting, etc.. I speak from the Rotary Power and Foam Pad point of view and experience here.. Good luck with your project - Congrats on the very nice car and color ! Dan F
