Anyone use Sonax Dashboard Cleaner? How is it compared to 1Z Deep Plastic or Cockpit Premium? How is the scent? Still looking for the perfect product and scent now that I can't get 1Z Cockpit Classic anymore.
Can't compare it to either of the 1Z products as I have yet to try them, but I will say that the Sonax does have a nice scent to it...fresh while not being noxious or overpowering when I've used it in on my BMW. Has pretty decent cleaning abilities, I was able to remove shine as a result of body oils on various radio/steering wheel controls with it in conjunction with a detail brush and microfiber towel. Hopefully this shines some light on your query.
As promised, here are my results from this afternoon. The three door panels I tested these on were washed down with AG Interior Shampoo so they all started on a level playing field. Keep in mind my car does have over 100,000 miles on it so the panels are going to be a lot lighter than door panels in a new car so the finished look may vary a bit in that these products on a newer car would probably darken the finish a little more. First up was Sonax. Not sure how to define the smell it wasn't horrible. Would I want an air freshener that smelled like this? Probably not, but the smell didn't linger at all so no worries. As you can see, it did add a little to the finish but not much so people looking for a matte finish will be more than happy. Applied it with a MF applicator and buffed off as directed. Very easy to use and nice finish. Not sticky at all. Next up was Einzett Cockpit premium. Personally, I think this product smells awful. Very strong alcohol smell. This product left nothing on the surface that I could see. Interestingly, it actually lightened the surface. See the following pics. The CP was applied to the LEFT side of the door panel. These door panels have only ever been dressed once about 4-5 months ago with Scholl so its not like there was a buildup of dressing the AG didn't remove. Last up is Scholl Purple 9000. I want to use the word fruity to describe the smell but it wouldn't be totally accurate. It is pleasant however which is good as the scent lingers for a little while. Not strong enough to overpower the Stripper Scent in my car though. Scholl says to apply and leave but I found it was a little too shiny so I buffed it with a clean, dry MF to achieve the look you see. It seemed to fill in the grain a bit better than the other two and deepen the look of the panel without making it shiny. Feel free to comment or ask questions.
ken, i like the smell of 1z but youre right it doesnt linger. will try the purple on my next order unless you can add it to the current one still. thanks dave
Ken, 1Z Cockpit Premium smells like citrus, not alcohol! Very sweet review, though. Do you have any plans to carry that Scholl product on your store?
I thought I was the only one who thought CP smelled like alcohol. I stopped using it because I thought it was alcohol with a citrus scent.
Don't have any in stock but may be bringing some in. Look for a group buy on Scholls in the very near future. Just awaiting final pricing from Ketil. If thats what the fruit smells like in your area, you may want to buy it somewhere else! LOL An vodka martini smells less like alcohol than Cockpit premium. See above regarding the Scholls. It is! LOL I like the Scholls because it seems to hide the graininess in the vinyl better than the other two and still maintains a matte finish.
Wow, I was not expecting such a robust response. Thanks Ken! I think I will try out the sonax next time I run low on something. The Scholl's is also a intriguing option had not even considered it perviously.
The first few times I used 1Z I hated the way it smelt, it almost made me sick. I decided to finish the bottle since it was pratically new. By the end of the bottle I loved the smell, and product itself. I can't stop using it now.

I have to agree with you here. Prior to buying cockpit, everyone stated that it smelled like citrus. However, once used, I was very disappointed that it didn't but smelled more like:shead:......hell I can't figure it out.
good review yes the 1z does have a strong smell, but it doesnt linger in the car at all i do my whole interior with 1Z, shut the doors and then by the time ive grabbed my window cleaner and MF the smell has faded i tried the sonax wheel cleaner and the smell lingered for hours and made me feel sick, so im definitely not going to use any sonax product inside the car now (however i do use their soap for wheels/underbody -it's otc stuff here)
