Dont know how many of you have touch touch plastic coated bits in your car, I know VW/Audi likes to use it alot and I think BMW as well on windows switches and what not. I have always used 1z Cockpit as this stuff is pretty fragile and can peal/bubble up if something harsh is used. Anyone use anything else to clean it that 1z, I am looking for something new...
Blackfire interior cleaner and protectant. Used it on my VW Passat and Audi A3 . . . no issues. I have cockpit on my shelf that I haven't tried on it yet. Frankly, I've even used Optimum powerclean (6:1) on the interior plastics and it hasn't damaged the soft-touch finish on my buttons. Dave
Is that the aerosol one or do you use the separate spray ones? I do not see a non aerosol cleaner/protectant.
Just wanted to post an update. Decided to do an interior clean on my A3 and my father's Camry Hybrid this weekend. Used both the cockpit & 1z deep plastic cleaner + the blackfire cleaner & protectant. With regards to your original intention of cleaning the soft-touch buttons and other units with the same finish (nav/climate controls), I like the cockpit better. The Blackfire cleaner and protectant is simply a two-step process, whereas the cockpit is one. The finish between the two was remarkably similar, with maybe a hint more sheen going to the blackfire protectant (it is a very matte finish). What I especially liked the cockpit for, was cleaning the dashboard. I found it much easier to use a MF towel slightly saturated with the cockpit to evenly clean the textured parts of the dash, vs using the two-step process of the BF cleaner / protectant. When I moved onto the leather/vinyl surfaces, my opinion slightly changed. Even though cockpit isn't designed for the purpose, I gave it a try and found it much less effective against the dirty light grey leather/vinyl in the camry. Here is where the blackfire cleaner shone. It was able to remove all grime and stain easily and leave a prepped surface for the 1z leather conditioning cream. Some thoughts/questions: --Since 1z cockpit is a cleaner, does it mean that it provides no protective coating? I've read a few of the descriptions and it doesn't mention having any UV inhibitors. Prior to cockpit, I was using the BF protectant (basically a very matte version of 303) --I really liked the 1z leather conditioner, as it seemed to soften the leather with just a few passes of the applicator, but didn't leave the surface greasy or sticky. --The 1z plastic cleaner seemed to work really well against tough set-in stains in the console, but Optimum power clean @ 4:1 also seemed to work just as effectively. --I will most likely continue to purchase the blackfire duo as well as the 1z cockpit and lederpflege. Most likely will not purchase the 1z plastic cleaner again. --Oh, and the 1z bottles and sprayers were far superior in terms of ergonomics and design. Hope this helps. Dave
Thanks for the update! I got a bottle of 1z CP now and going to be using it just for the soft touch plastic and the speedo/tach lens cleaning as the coating on them is pretty sensitive. 1z CP does have some protection, it protects against UV from head according of 1z when I emailed them. I also love 1z Leather Care but moved to Leather Master and will be giving that a try soon, may end up doing LM 2x a year and use 1z stuff in between as needed. I was thinking of 1z plastic cleaner but i have a gallon of power clean and know it is pretty safe on alot of stuff and from what you said it seems to be no significant improvement. I agree the 1z bottles are great! You can buy from them from 1z-USA if you wanted to.
