Greetings, New to the forum. I have been using Griot's Garage "Car Wash" for the past 3 months on my new Audi. With a product like this, is it recommended to put the soap in the bucket first and then add the water (i.e. in that order) producing lots and lots of suds? If I add the soap after carefully measuring out the amount of water in the bucket, it is less sudsy. In reading this forum, I see there are 3-4 highly regarded car wash products. Anybody else using stuff from Griot's? Regards, -- noswirls
There are a few people I think but personally use Opt car wash as its cheaper and works just as well. There is no right or wrong order in doing it, if you put soap in first you get more suds, put it in after and mix it well you get less. I put it in after so I dont get alot of foam on top and then over spills to get the correct water volume. The soap will foam once in the sponge or washing mitt. Also, welcome to DB!
I would put the soap in last. That way you know how many gallons are going in and your not losing soap from it making to many suds. I just usually swish it around with my hand or mitt and get to washing.
I fill a 5 gallon pail half way with water, add my soap and then use my pressure washer. Makes lots of suds!
Suds aren't really necessary for cleaning power I don't think. I fill up about 3 gallons of water in a bucket, then add the soap, and slowly swirl it with my hand to homogenize it.
I usually fill up the bucket about 2/3 of the final level, add soap, then fill remaining so some suds are generated. I tried adding it at the end but it seemed to much effort to get it to disperse evenly quickly.
Wow, sure a lot of different methods used by everyone so far. I don't think I ever really thought about it too much though. I have always started with the soap and then filled the bucket to the proper level that is marked for the type of wash being used. Hose pressure with jet nozzle creates enough suds that I am applying suds to the car but not so much I'm without sufficient water. FWIW, I too use Griot's soap most of the time. I have never purchased but have seen their wash bucket at their distribution center in Plainfield, IN. It has a pre-measured "cup" on their built in grate to place the soap in prior to adding the water. So I'd assume they intend for their soap to be added first, water second. Just a thought.
Suds to help in some cleaning but when I use a sponge to clean the suds at the top of the buckets do not do anything as I dunk the sponge into the water/soap and then when I pull it out none of those top suds are on it, as the suds are created by the sponge or mitt that I am using. I dont like having alot of suds on top just because I use 3.5 gallons of water and if i put soap in first then fill I have foam over flowing the bucket. End of the day, it does not matter how you do it but as long as you have the proper dilution of soap to water and it is mixed properly is how I see it.
I use a foam canon and 5 gallon bucket of clean water with a grit gaurd and Zymol sponge. Just my 2 cents Oh and CG Citrus wash
I appreciate all the replies. Glad to have found this forum. Tons of great information here. I have a new Audi (that I am thrilled with). Sadly, the detailing forum on the Welcome to AudiWorld.com - The Audi Enthusiast Website website is virtually dead. This is the first time I am handwashing/waxing a vehicle. I'm having a blast so far and the A4 looks great! Regards, -- swirls
