my friend manages the other day trying to sell him some stuff he asked for, towels, polishes. well anyway the owner says hell no i am not paying for mf towels, i was like go to costco then. in the process we start talking about my mobile detailing business and the whole eco friendly system i use. so then he says come look at this cadi i have for a picky customer. the interior is shot, the paint is swirled and the usual. so he asks for a quote, we haggle price, he agrees. we went to do the car last friday, while i was there i met their in house detailer. we talk, blah blah blah. so when we're done, the guy starts picking my work apart. telling the manager, my friend of 13 years mind you, that i did a shitty job and i missed some stuff. so my friend tells me as i'm getting my check, i was floored!. i went out to the car and asked the detailer to point out my flaws. turns out they are scratches so deep they are to the metal, i told the owner and manager, "i'm a detailer, not a painter". so now the guy is pissed, saying i did sub par work blah blah blah. in the mean time i started talking to their painter and he asks if i can look at a bmw he just painted, its black. he says the custome returned it because he was unhappy they left it in the condition they did. the car has so many buffer trails it looks like a map, and it is covered in compound. door jams are filthy, hood, trunk and sunroof are filled with compound. i tell the painter, the owner and the manager i can fix it, but i'll cost you guys. we're talking and the in house detailer comes up and says he'll do it for less and do a better job! in front of all of us! i was like damn, its time to school this mofo on my skills. well he proceeds to challenge me!! he says he'll match what the body is paying if i do a better job. if i loose i give him my money and basically do the job for free. we decide to set up a time this week and tape the car in half and do one side each. this is the same guy that detailed it originally btw i dont believe i have ever been challenged like that before. so i'm thinking thursday i'm going to buy me a new iphone with the money i win! lol sorry for the rambling
Man, that is so funny. Make sure you take lots of pics and have a few neutral parties to decide. I'd point out the condition it's in when you start and say to the guy..."Isn't this your best work already?" Go ahead, humiliate him, you have our permission.
Be sure to point out the buffer trails too the ppl. Break out the halogens too. Shed some light on the subject.
LOL you guys are crazier than me!! i did point out the buffer marks and the painter was like yeah i want those out! LOL man it was so funny to think the customer brought the car back and complained about the condition of the car and this guy still has the never to challenge me. i went back saturday to show them how i can help them with high end or picky customers. i busted out my stuff and did a spot on a black audi they had just color sanded. the guy who was doing the color sanding asked me to please stop because their guy would never be able to match my work on the rest of the car! LOL good thing the in house guy wasnt there to see. he might have tried to get out of our bet
I'd make sure that you do your thing while he's not around or he'll just try to copy you. Also don't break out the lights until your done. Then all his crap will show up like a sore thumb. Try not to laugh when he starts buffing off all the clear maybe he'll even burn some paint! You know he's going to give you the worse side.
i would love the owner to pick, but i havent worked those details out yet. i'm sure it will be fair i have known the owner for several years as well. the detailer has been there a few months. he's just one of those guys who you cant give advise to. he was sanding some tail lights and trying to get the shine back. i offered him some CG 1.5 to start. he looked at me and said he was fine with his 3M imperial hand glaze. needless to say, they looked like ass
haha, stick it to him. Honestly I feel bad for the painter because I bet he is doing a great job with the paint job and the house detailer is just messing it up. I have seen some great paint jobs right out of the booth, nice level paint, no runs, just in general you know the painter takes pride in his work but the painter is not a detailer. Car then goes to the "detailer" and boom that amazing job is now looks like a hack job because of the loss of clarity and depth.
well i am going to check the car from top to bottom on my side before we start in case he does something to it. he has 3 days to "mess it up for me" if he wants. yes the painter was pissed because he said it made him look like he didnt know what he was doing. i assured him i could make it look better. this was a complete repaint, so you know it was not damaged prior. the owner was thinking of re-re-painting it so the customer would be happy. its a 7 series bmw. older one, but still.
Man your gonna be in for a long day, I couldn't Imagine trying to work side by side with someone with this mentality. By lunch I would be doing this > :catfight: :catfight: :catfight: Good Luck to you and if you end up in the Grey Bar Hotel, I got $50 to help you get out...lol
lol i'm used to working with people of differing mentalities. i used to manage a staff of 25 before i ventured out on my own so to speak. besides i figure half a car, about 3 hours, 4 hours tops. not doing interior at all. just the paint and only half of it at that LOL. i'll charge the body shop more to fix the other guys half LOL good looking out, keep your phone handy
hahaha oh this is going to be good, um..any way you could take a cam corder and record this in HD if possible? Come on I really, really want to see this opcorn:
sorry i only have a regular camera, not fortunate enough to have an hd camcorder that would be epic!! have like 3 vans full of people follow me and be like, they're my support staff, the bleachers go over there
If I said what I was really thinking right now Carlos would ban me. What a schmuck! Bust your foot off in his ass! God I hate people like that. Take befores and afters of BOTH sides please. lol
Make sure you agree to wipe the car down with alcohol when you are done to show his filled swirls and your corrected paint.
Make sure you refine next to the tape line very well to 50/50 it in has face, and when they put the lights on his side just fall over laughing :thumb:
