I am new to the forum and new to the world of PROPER car appearance care. I checked out the sticky and other various threads and still have some questions. In a month or so I will be getting a set of new wheels for my Subaru STi. I've narrowed it down to a few choices, all expensive. They are two-piece forged aluminum and will be custom painted or powder coated with some exposed polished areas.

Stock STi pads dust like crazy so I need something strong, but safe (duh) for constant cleaning. For polishing, do I need to use 2 different products for the bare metal and painted surfaces? I am uncertain if there is a difference between wheel sealants and regular paint sealants. Are wheel sealants only needed on cast or porous wheels? Lastly, what tools are appropriate for my situation? There are some pretty tight crevices in the designs.

I have a pretty good idea how to proceed, but I'd hate to overlook something. Thanks in advance.

All types of wheel finishes require protection from air-borne brake dust and its adhesive, as it will etch the surface if it’s not removed.

A polymer has better durability and a much higher melting point (350.oF) than a Carnauba wax (185.oF) and is therefore more suitable for use on wheel surfaces. A protective product will also make the surfaces easier to clean
