so i was having a slow day at work today and found myself mulling around the shop, cleaning up, organizing, etc. i happened to go into a back area of the building which i dont really ever go, and started cleaning stuff up, throwing things out, and as im moving a huge pile of used stained up floor mats, i found this gem sitting in the corner:

i snapped a quick picture on the blackberry and then ran off to inquire about the machine. i got a lot of "oh that old thing...yeah it hasnt been used in a year or two...". i plugged it in. it lights up etc. i might be able to talk my boss into letting me have it or buy it off him on the cheap. its got the little cart thing it sits in, and the steam wand with a couple switches on the wand. i have no idea how to operate it otherwise.

im looking for Nica to chime in on this one since he seems to be the steam master.

    good find?

somethings making me think that i remember this being the same unit that Nica has....

I would try it out at work 1st, then decide to buy it if it works. Here's a quick link I found here.

Looks solid. That puppy needs some TLC, and then a little more love and she should be fine. Even if it's curently not working, looks like it could be worthwhile to repair.

tried out earlier today and it works. im just not sure exactly how to operate it properly. to be honest i was a little disappointed with its lack of cleaning power. i was gauging this off of the fact that ive seen a couple of Nicas threads where he uses his steamer to clean everything and it comes out perfect...

yeah i was looking at their site last night. these units are not cheap.

    thanks

haha well if i can get my hand on this im definitely gonna keep it. but if i decide to clean it up and sell it ill let you know

yeah shes pretty dirty. i used the steamer to clean itself up a little bit today actually :applause2:

Maybe you could test the Unit on Itself:giggle: Hit it with staight APC and Blast away.:yikes:

You might wanna see how much your Boss wants for it, before you put alot of time into it.

After he see's you got it working/cleaned up he will start thinking twice about the $$$:thud:
    Good Luck:chips:

I use my steamer a lot..I just don't post about it a lot. The thing with steam is it depends on what you're cleaning. Sometimes just the steam alone will do the trick. Other times it helps to add a cleaner like an APC and then hit it with the steam. Also, often times you need a brush too to get it to be effective. It's different and there is a learning curve, but once you've mastered it, you won't want to be without it.

I would have to agree with richy, having a good steamer comes in handy and they are so versatile it's incredible. Having said that, the key to a steamer is temperature and pressure. Temperature needs to be high enough so it's effective and as far as pressure it comes in handy if your using it on the exterior but even if it only has low pressure it can still be good. I'm very pleased with my steamer and not sure if I could detail with out it now. Like richy said at first you feel odd with the steamer but once you include it your regiment your fine, just take a bit of time.

As to the steamer you found/considering purchasing. I'm curious, does it produce much pressure? Pressure is good but most importantly what temperature does it peak too? Well those are two things that pop to mind at the moment...if I think of other things to consider I'll be sure to post them up.

Oooh...I just remembered why I like pressure on my steamer, when I'm steaming rims for the most part I'm able to remove just about anything that has bonded to the inside of the rims, even tar...tar may take some time to remove but it can be done.

Hope this helps some and like I said if I think of other things to consider on a steamer I'll be sure to share.

If it works, buy it. Learn to use it, you'll love it. Best thing I ever got to do interiors. See if you can get that old thing cheap.

Find out the PSI, temperature, and overall specs for the machine then move from there. It's probably way better than any retail or low end steamer you cang rab.
