I recently completed this 1995 Avus Blue M3, a full 3 day correction was carried out on this car. During the finishing/jeweling stage I took a video and thought I would share it.

Here is me with the Makita using Meguiars M205 finishing polish with a final finishing pad that is currently being beta tested, I did use a spritz of a mineral oil blend called EVP on the pad to extend the work time of M205 which BTW is a terrific finishing polish and IMO superior to 3M Ultrafina.

I started out at about 900rpm for the first few passes and then bumped up to about 1100rpm and began to slow down the passes to really refine the finish. It took about 4-5mins to fully finish down this section of the panel so this is just a short video.

    Enjoy

Yeah I could use some of your technique. I'm your size, probably bigger and I get tossed around like a child.

Lol, with any rotary you gotta let it do what it wants to do or else, as you say you will get thrown around like a child. Just keep a firm handle and close eye on the machine and the fluidity will come to you. The more you use it the easier it gets. Im no expert but I can say that by not forcing the machine it will become your best friend, I enjoy using it much more than my flex DA or cyclo. Theres no correct technique IMO when it comes to rotary polishing, just things you should never do (apply heavy pressure, make jerky motions etc). Everyone buffs differently, find what works for you and roll with it.

If I have some time this weekend I will post another video or two. Thank you for the positive feedback. :mounty:

Hey, what backing plate are you using there? Also, what diameter pad? That's the setup I'm looking for with my Makita.

Looks like a 3m UK backing plate (5") and a blue uber pad (5.5") both of which you can get from Phil (Detailers Domain)

Ok, this video is like a year old, and I think I am not as fluid with the makita as I am now.... I am going to make a new video right now!

My detail job for today was cancelled at midnight last night so I am still in the spirit of correction.

    Nice!

Lets see a vid of you using a wool pad or cutting pad with a more aggressive compound... I find finishing or jeweling to be relaxing because the buffer is so smooth with a nice oily compound like 85rod and a soft pad like an uber blue or 3m black... but cutting, never so smooth, makes it harder to maintain proper technique.

Nice video, is that the 3m US black polishing pad? 5.25" or what not? I know 3m's finishing pad are all blue and black (now yellow) is polishing.

Great video though, thanks for posting it!
