Shoes for Detailing?

    Hey all,

I was thinking of what kind of shoes would be most appropriate for detailing. There are a few factors to put into consideration like the shoes getting wet, what's comfortable if you're polishing for several hours, etc.

One idea I had in mind was possibly wearing Crocs. Not so sure if they're actually comfortable but it wouldn't be a grand issue if they got wet. Another negative to them is if you were to use them in cold climates, it wouldn't be very comfortable at all.

    Thoughts? Suggestions?

  2. I've seen a lot of guys washing in a "boot" type of shoe. Something that is water resistant, yet comfortable.

Personally I just wear tennis shoes when I do my car. They usually don't get wet at all.

I wear tennis shoes, used to be nike shox.... but I detail full time so shoes last about 6 months max. In winter time if you foot gets wet it does suck, but just take an extra pair of socks. I am wearing Adidas clima-cool right now. Comfort is the most important thing.

Personally I couldn't do boots, not comfortable at all. Shoot, Paul Dalton wears skater shoes in his Videos!!

A set of Columbia hiking boots like the ones I've got on right now would work well. They're waterproof, nicely padded, and, unlike many of the other boots I tried on, they're incredibly light weight. Nothing like Timberlands or Hi-Tecs at all.

I usually wear an old pair of Sambas, or some other sneaker that I don't mind getting wet, dirty, or scuffed by kneeling down on paved surfaces. The Columbias would be a lot better, I just hate buying an expensive pair of shoes knowing they'll probably get ruined.

GORE TEX baby! Dry is the word of the day. I go through 2 pairs of gore tex boots a year but my feet are always dry. Hitting your feet with a blast of water from a pressure washer could be very painful. I have a pair of Columbia Titaniums right now. Very light and well padded.

I wear DC skate shoes for detailing. They're crazy comfortable, relatively grippy, and I've yet to get my feet wet in them. They're mostly suede so they repel water well, and I hit them with scotch guard once a week. My last pair for detailing were demoted nike dunks, and the only time my feet got wet was when they finally tore open on me. I'm all about comfort. Hell, I detail every day, so its a must. I just can't do it with boots.

When its warm, rainbows...when its colder Puma shoes. Dont really get my feet wet when washing so that is a plus.

GG use to have some detailing shoes, had holes on the side to let water out...prob find something like that at a boat place maybe.

All good suggestions everyone! Don't hate on my style Mike! ;)

I've been using skate-like shoes (Etnies, Vans, etc.) since they're very comfortable for me but they get wet if I'm not careful enough. I'll look into everyone's suggestions.

Dude. These things freaking rock. First pair I've owned. The whole inside of them is a sewn sock made out of their water-resistant material. And, they're warm, but not so warm that I couldn't wear them year round. They could cure me of Samba Classics altogether.

I wear black Romeos by Georgia Boot while detailing. Looks nice with our uniforms, but I slip into rainboots when I'm in the prep bay washing cars. The Romeos hold up really well compared to all others that I have tried.

In the summer, I wear crocks to wash outside and then when the car gets pulled inside I switch to running shoes. In the winter if I have to wash inside, I wear an old pair of my police boots that are waterproof and then switch back to running shoes once I squeegee out the water. I like having the ankle support of the shoes but not the weight of the boots.
