1985 Porsche Carrera This car was picked up by the current owner two years ago. The current owner hasn't waxed since he bought the car because he was afraid of someone messing the paint up. But once he found me, he knew that i could take care of it. The car has 8x,xxx miles, and overall was in pretty decent condition for being 23 years old. it used to be garage kept, but now it is just kept outside under a car cover. Unfortunately the owner only wanted a two-step polish, so only about 90% of the defects were removed by 2-3 passes of SIP. some RIDE were still too deep to remove without compounding .This was also my 1st time polishing a 1-stage paint. Look at how the ARO lifts all the dirt out of the tires!!! After wash and clay i can tell that this car had been polished before because there were burnt edges all over the place... The owner opted for a two-stage polish, which i use SIP on an orange pad and follow it up with 85RD. Now some before and after pictures with the 1-stage paint i could only polish 1-2 panels per pad because the paint clogged up the pad so quick!!! a few 50/50 shots! I called it a night at 10PM after finishing with SIP. the next morning i arrived at my customer's house at 7:30AM, gave the car a wipedown with ISA alcohol, and got started polishing with 85RD. In this picture, the front fender is polished with 85RD, and the door is polished with SIP. look at the difference in the gloss! some shots after polishing with 85RD Now that i was done with the paint, the rims needed some serious attention. i decided to go wit hMother's billet polish for te aluminum, and SIP by hand on the black painted part. After polishing the wheels i gave them a wipedown with ISA alcohol and applied a generous coat of CG jetSEAL 109. after doing that, i applied Lime Prime Lite and followed that with Rubbish Boy's Original Edition Wax to the paint. While i let the wax settle, i went to work on the interior. The interior hasn't been cleaned (only vacumed) since the owner bought the car. i decided to use CG leather cleaner with the Swissvax leather brush to clean all of the leather upholstery. after doing the interior, i removed the wax, wiped down with cold water, and wiped with FK425. Finished pictures!!! this car gets pretty good MPG's! thats all! thanks for looking!!! SSD
Great job, i always enjoy seeing your work! Were you able to clean up your pads good enough after that red SS?
Great detail and write up as well. I really enjoyed it alot. It's was a shame about the burned edges. I would have figured that whom ever would have noticed and learned from there first mistake. Just lucky you came along and saved the day. Thanks for sharing.Great job...:thumb:
oooh gorgeous Porche, man those old school Porche look wicked. From the head lights to the curves on the rear :druling: Another great detail, well done :applause:
That is a seriously good job Dom. Well done. Curious about something. Did you run the polisher right over the "Carrera" badge on the hood?
Nice job Dominic. Those wheels looked horrible when you got there. Most Porsche owners have no idea that the "Fuchs" alloys from the factory had a clear anodized finish that would be ruined if washed with anything stonger than soap and water, basically. They looked way better when you were done. Isn't single stage paint fun? How many pads did you go through?
Great job on restoring that porsche, you reallly saved it. I love all the pictures man, really good write up!!!
Nice save! :applause: I like looking at a properly reconditioned red vehicle! :thumb: Great write up. Thanks for sharing.
thanks! yea the pads cleaned up ok. right after i was finished with each one i had a bucket with CG CWC that i put the pads in. thanks! thanks! fortunately the customer bought touch-up paint and i was able to touch up the burnt edges. thanks! i really like the older porsches as well! thanks! i used a small (4 inch i think) pad and did it VERY lightly thanks! thanks! if i would have had a powerball or something i feel like i could have polished them better... but still an improvement from before! single stage paint is...well...interesting. It's great to work with because i found that it doesn't heat up as much as clear coat, however the going through a pad every 1-2 panels got annoying... i only used 3 pads. while i was using one the other two were soaking in CWC, so i constantly had a clean pad. but i must have changed pads for SIP around 10 times! thanks! thanks! thanks! both!
Love a vintage 911, another great job Mr Scheer. :druling: Would you mind if I added one of those pictures to my OE gallery please?
