My wife got me a GoPro HD for Christmas. Took it out for the second time this weekend, and mounted it to my friend's Traxxas Spartan RC boat. A mixture of clipping a duck's wing and the cold weather resulted in the camera falling off the boat. It was found by a scuba diver two days later, enjoy the footage! http://vimeo.com/19156526
Glad you got it back, but that was one of the funniest things Ive seen in awhile, the ducks was great, so was the image of the briney deep! That is a durable camera
I actually tried to recover it myself the next day. A friend and I put on wetsuits, got Wal*Mart goggles and flippers and swam to the middle of the lake to try and find it. Let's just say that water below 50F is very cold, especially on your head. After 20 minutes, I was worn out. The camera was found probably a good 30 feet from where we were looking, close to 10 feet deep. And yes, it's quite durable. We mounted it on RC cars the same day we the scuba diver found it. Got some great footage chasing dogs with it. And the dogs chasing the cars. And the pitbulls destroying one of them.
That's awesome!. Didn't know those things were waterproof. That will be a story to tell for a long time.
wow awesome camera. more awesome not that it has survived and recovered from being missing under the sea for 2 days seriously should get me one of these, looks so fun!
Thats awesome man glad you found it. I used to have a Traxxas nitro powered rc car and and HPI rc truck both were decked out but I sold them a few years ago. I now wish I would have kept the HPI truck.
great vid glad you got it back....i was big in rc cars always wanted a boat....that little thing was moving
haha Pete that awesome man, glad you are having a blast with it. I have to agree while the footage on the RC boat is awesome, on the way down to the briney deep is just funny, it's almost dramatic.
Haha the under water shot is awesome too bad it didn't stay upright to film the fishes. Did PETA contact you about duck abuse yet?:
Dude that is hilarious, especially the duck part. Did anyone else notice that the rocky floor looks like the face of the devil when it's floating to the bottom? Conspiracy!
very cool, did you label the camera and thats how the diver got it back or just random luck, congrats on getting it back
That's a great video!! It would have been cool to get the diver picking it up, but you only have two hours of video. The GoPro's rock, we have them and used them this summer on a Airforce Base to video high speed runs. The suction cup mount is rated for 100mph, they stayed on at just over 200mph with not one falling off any of the cars. BTW do you know of any video editing sofware that you can show inside and exterior footage at the same time for PC?
When we were playing with the boat, a guy walked up randomly and was asking us about the boat. He was there watching when the camera fell off, and mentioned he was a diver and he gave me his phone number just in case. We attempted to retrieve it the next day, but to no avail. You just cannot stay under water at 47F temperatures with just a thin wetsuit with Wal*Mart goggles. So I called him the day after that, and he turns out to be a certified scuba instructor. He found the camera in less than 10 minutes. The water was about 9 or 10 feet deep, and visibility was OK. He happened to just stumble upon it, so I guess we were lucky!
That was an awesome video P1et. The thought of diving into Town Lake in January does not sound fun at all.
