I'm curious, how many of you actually use your rotary to sand wood? I've got a nice PC palm sander, but the idea of using it to sand down the wood after PW stripping does not sit well with me.

Do you all think I can get away with using my Flex DA?

i was wondering the same thing.

my biggest concern is the resulting sawdust / sanding dust getting caught in the machine housing. i'm afraid later, when i use the machine for a detail, having it 'escape' onto the car's finish. even a few pieces getting caught b/t your pad and finish could cause major problems.

Yeah I really wouldn't want to mix both... unless you basically full detail the Flex and you still might have some dust in there that will come out while detailing.

As someone who has done this, the rotary really doesn't allow a very good finish, unless the wood is extremely flat or very well contoured like a car. My deck was warped at the edge's about a 1/4 inch on each board/plank, and the rotary would pull and skip 'bad' so I went back to my DA for sanding, much easier and I could accomplish more. Now if I was sanding paint off the side of a house, rather than scuffing up a deck for finishing, I would use the rotary.

    Just my .2 cents
