From what I have seen on the Optimum forum you are not able to layer opti- coat. Dr G said it will not adhere to itself. you can put a wax over the top of it but it will not adhere to the coating like it would bare paint, so it will not last long ( kind of makes sense as opti-coat repels dirt grime, rain etc... ) you could always use a quick detailer after a wash if you want to top it with something. for me I am leaving it naked LOL ! I have not heard of any other permanent coatings yet , lets see what others have to say if there are more permanent coatings out there. you could always check out the Optimum forum and check out the opti coating section. I just started using it a couple of weeks ago and it have been happy with it . just make sure you get your paint in the condition you want it and wipe it down well.

I'm no expert in PC's but I own a few of them.

Opti coat is the only permanent coating out right now, the only thing that will deter it is mechanical abrasion, like a small rock swiping the side of your car on the freeway, you can just touch "those" places up.

Here's the list I have compiled thus far on coating

Wolf's Body Wrap - Can be layered
Aquartz - Can be Layered
CQuartz - Can be layered
Opti Coat/Guard - Cannot be layer
Permanon Car/Platinum - Cannot be layered
Element 119X - Don't Know
G'Zox HI-MOHS - Cannot be layered; you also need a IR lamp for this
Meguiars Deep Crystal Coating (Beta testing in Thailand) - Don't know

I'm not sure how to answer this but generally, you strip the car of all existing protection then add the permanent coating. Applying a sealant is unnecessary but a wax may be desirable. Generally you don't add waxes to Aquartz or Cquartz because their radiance is already beautiful. On Opti Coat you may want to add a wax because I hear it gives paint a "rubbery" feel.

What I didn't put on the list because I am un-sure about it

- 3D coating: Nero I think that's right
- DG sealant that Ken and Richy are testing

I think there are a few but I'm not familiar with them. Opticoat is an actual clear coat though and not a long lasting nano sealant.

2 can they be layered?
Yes and no. You cannot just add a layer on top of another. If you want more than one layer you have two options:
1. You can apply a second layer immediately after the first coat flashes, before moving to the next panel. This is really just like applying a single thick coat and is a good idea on colors that you can't see the product flash well. It's a way to ensure even coverage without the flashing feed back.
2. After Opticoat cures, a second coat will not adhere...but, you can scuff the surface on a microscopic level using a light polish to get subsequent layers to stick.

We feel that you will get all the benefits the coating offers from a single evenly applied application as you are basically adding 2 microns of clear coat that repels waterand contaminants, makes the vehicle easier to clean, and can be polished as needed.

3 can you layer wax or a sealant or the permanent coat? Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks
You can top Opticoat, but due to the nature of product the topper won't bond as securely and thus, won't last very long. Something fast and easy would be OptiSeal or optimum car wax. Either can be applied so quickly the even monthly or biweekly applications would be a breeze. I personally like the water beading and water shedding of the coating so I don't usually top it unless I'm bored. If you want/need to refresh Opticoat every few month just use Poliseal to clean and renew it.

I currently am using Wolfs Chemicals Bodywrap and the beading, sheeting and most important the protection so far is just insane. I wrote a post on my findings in the Wolfs Chemicals section of the forum, if you are interested to read it let me know I will give you the link to the thread its in. Wolfs Chemicals states that it lasts 6 months or more and I have seen vehicles that have had it for 8 months and its still protecting great. The great thing about it is that its not like the other coatings, you get 150ml in the bottle which is enough to do 10 or more vehicles not one or two applications like other coatings. Also after applying it I have to say it is by far the easiest coating to apply and remove that I have used so re application is simple. And I have applied both Cquartz and Opti-Coat V2 yet Wolfs Bodywrap is by far the easiest to apply and has the slickest feel of the three I have used. It can be layered but only with itself and Wolfs Chemicals Nano Quick Detailer which adds a bit more protection. To maintain it wash with Wolfs Chemicals Nano Bathe to preserve the coating.

Six to eight months is a standard sealant not a coating. Paint is a coating. Clear coat is a coating. Opti guard/coat is a coating.

been using cquartz up to date and it's holding very well after 5 months. Currently testing wolf body wrap and rim sealant and loving them so far. I understand that wolf is more of a nano sealant rather then coating, and I love how easy application is. Aquartz and g-techniq c1 are next in line.

Well maybe Wolfs Bodywrap it not a coating but I will leave it to Jesse to chime in on that. What I do know it is, is a nano sealant and it provides better protection than regular sealants.

I wasn't knocking Wolfs body wrap. I have their deironizer and like it very much. I was just making the point that in a thread titled "?'s about permanent coatings", it's probably a relevant product.
