Anyone tried out Rubbish Boys foam pads or his backing plate? They look pretty promising!

plus shipping it would be not too much less than the 3m. Wait for phil to have another sale then just jump on the 3m!

Don't think it will fit. We use a 5/16" backing plate, theres is m14. Thats why there are 2 different 3m backing plates, you have to make sure you get the right sized one.

The backing plates do indeed use an M14 thread, where as you US and Canadian guys will probably have a 5/8" thread on your machines.

The ultra soft backing plate is very similar to a 3M plate, except it has a softer layer of foam.

But they are quite light so shipping on them wouldn't be outrageous, about £2 (GBP) on a single one. So about $33 (USD) for a single plate with shipping.

Not sure how you would get over the M14 thread issue though.

so there isn't an adapter out there that would make it possible to work?

Sure there is, I had my machine shop make me an adaptor it looks like this:

I had it made becuse the first 3M UK Backing Plate I was able to get my hands on was the M14 size, actually I forgot all about the different threads from the UK and when it arrived it wouldn't fit

I got the idea of the adaptor from the Metabo extension spindle (I think that's what it's called). Basically what it is, it's just an extension for the Metabo. So I took the spindle extension to my machine shop and told them to make me the exact same thing with the appropriate threads.

I still use the adaptor, it's on my Makita:

It works well, any who the reason why I mention this is becuase it can be done. I didn't have my machine shop make me a bunch of them, in fact I probably only have 3 or so for my self...so dont go thinking that I can provide these for you guys...however, if you get your hands on the Metabo's spindle extension (that comes with the Metabo and I'm sure you can order seperately) you can go to any machine shop and they should be able to re-thread it for you.

Anything can be done, it's just a matter how much your willing to invest in it, time and money wise I mean.

lol..actually I should change that statement becuase I just phoned the machine shop and asked if they could make me 100 of them and they say they can...but the only thing is when can they do it...not sure...the other thing is price, I honestly have no clue how much these things would cost..seeing as I own the machien shop price can be what ever I want it to be but I'd have to seriously look in to it..like I said anything can be done it's just a matter of time, effort and money
