“Automotive Detailing Inside & Out, A Knowledge Base for the Perfectionist"– by Jon Miller aka TOGWT™

I hope to have it for sale on my website TOGWT.com end November - early January 2008

This collection of answers to detailing problems and technical information was used for about five plus years to answer questions on various forums, I then decided to put all the information in a 300 + page book form and e-publish it as a definitive guide to automobile detailing, and for less than the price of a quality Carnauba wax.

It's not just a How it works, but also a “Why” it works, as well as an explanation of the scientific terminology. I try to write in a way that helps the reader to understand not only "How" to do something, but "Why" they are doing it, along with the technical, scientific facts along with any relevant chemical information, but if you’ve read any of my forum posts / threads you'll already understand just what I mean

The purpose of this book is to show you various ways, utilizing various skills and experience levels, on how to retrieve the original or better appearance / finish to your vehicles bodywork and its interior and how to preserve and maintain it, along with product recommendations and there correct application methods.

Are you suggesting that the compound should not be removed with a mf prior to the polish being applied?

That was a stupid question on my part. Funny how when you're away from it for a while, you don't even remember your own method. I also use that method, I just didn't get it right away...that just ensures even coverage and I believe helps eliminate swirls, etc. I am wheeling out my mother-in-law's Sunfire now and realized what you meant.

Togwt what are your feelings with regards to speed settings and finishing, ect ?

I only ask because I was/am considering the Flex 3403 as a rotary polisher due to it's compact size and light weight but it only starts at 1100rpm's (unloaded), will it create more problems than it solves ?

2-3 FEET per second? I would have assumed that was too fast.

    Carn Welcome to Detailing

I think he meant 2-3 inches per second.....Based on what he said here anyways......

"5. The speed at which the foam pad travels across a paint surface is also important, moving too fast won’t allow the micro-abrasive to ‘beak down’, Machine linier speed; machine left to right movement shown as inches per second (IPS) apply polish at an MLS of 3-inchs per second with a rotary polisher (1.0 to 1.5-inch per second random orbital buffer). "
