PASSED. So I was trying to watch Ironman last night in prep for Ironman 2, rental DVD. I quickly got really frustrated with the stupid scratched DVD because it would get hung up and skip around and was all choppy - happens with every DVD. Cue: extra set of fingers, clean counter top(ONR) and some 106FA on 3inch "custom cut" green @ 1700 RPM. RESULT : Flawless swirl free finish DVD, no stopping or chopiness and no visual and audio defects:applause2: Final thoughts: I will be doing this to all rentals before playing them to be considerate to the next person who gets them.
*eyeballs topic title* I've polished a couple discs in a similar manner before. Works ok. Also for what it's worth, this is almost exactly what Hollywood video does with their scratched discs. They just have a machine to do it.. but it's pretty much a buffing pad on a spindle with some compound. http://jfjeasypro.com/aboutproduct.htm
Haha.. I do the same exact thing to my scratched up dvds. A little D151/white@1500 cleans them up very nicely, not to mention they are now protected with some wax.
pics or it didnt happen, also we need 50/50s and halogen shots or we'll just think your another hack! lol jk, i do the same but i've designated my scratchx for that
lol im glad i read this. gf is trying to watch a "girl" movie and keeps yelling about the skipping lol. Im going to do this now -I will report back soon with M205 on orange on DA polisher and how this did! thank you everyone
do you guys seriously have pics? How the heck can you hold the disc still and polish? I have a old cd that i no longer have a back up of with a mix i did years ago and wouldn't mind polishing it up so it'll play again.
OK so bump this - I tried 4 inch pad and 205 on DA, the vibration was a bit of a pain! I took a small pad on a rotary and pinned it on the table and did half and a time. Took 30 seconds and brand new DVD. Now I can read forums in quiet! White pad M205 at 1500 rpm - 4 inch pad 30 sec - 1 min total( took more time to hold and adjust it then it did to polish) - skip free!
Now i've been told that when Blu-ray's get scratched that they are no longer playable. Is this true? I tried buy a used PS3 game and the store associate looked over the disk and found a scratch. He said "i can't sell this to you, it won't work at all" I thanked him for his honesty. So does anyone care to try and buff out a scratched Blu-Ray???
