I finally got my LC backplate and some Css pad. Just as i thought i am ready for some action with my makita, i was shocked when i realise that my backplate thread is too big for my makita. Initally i thought my friend got me the wrong backplate and request for a change, but after comparing the backplate and our makita, his makita has bigger screw thread than mine. Since we got our makita from the same shop(he got his few months before me), i went down to clarify the matter today and was told that there is a new and old version of 9227c. As my Autoglym backplate fits in perfectly, i had that impression that all backplate are of the same thread size. Is there actually different version of makita? Is there any connector or ways to modify the thread?
Nearly every rotary on the US market today uses a 5/8 - inch / 11pi arbour spindle for backing plates. LC Backing Plate has a 5/8 -inch 11pi female thread Wha is the thread size on your Makita?
So probably i got a different version. How can i know what is my makita thread size, is it stated anywhere? Any idea does Lc do this version of backing plates? or is there any connector to solve tis? I can't possibly get another makita!
I believe everywhere in south east asia, makita offers M16 thread which is impossible to get a replacement backing plate..that's why I ordered makita for US
M16 or 5/8" ? A 5/8" thread is just under 16mm in dia and could easily be confused for an M16 thread. dschia I suggest you use a vernier to measure the diameter of the spindle on youor machine. If it is around 14mm in diameter you more than likely have a European M14 thread, if it is just under 16mm in diameter its most likely US spec 5/8". I have never seen an M16 equipped rotary before but I could be wrong. The supplier or local Makita agents would be your best bet :thumb:
Hey carn, you got it right on the m14. My autoglym back plate that fits in perfectly had a m14 wording behind it. Damn, don't understand why the same shop that both my friend and I went to decide to sell different version of Makita. What the... Anyway, for anyone who decided to get the makita or new backplate, please take note of your rotary spindle diameter!~ Btw, glad to know that there are connector for m14 to 5/8", gonna search for them tomorrow. http://www.foamez.com/flexpad-metric-adapter-p-559.html
