A customer is wanting to have road paint removed from her toureg. Let me tell you, its everywhere. Wheel wheels, tires, along the side. I have done this once before but forgot the product I used, got it from the hardware store What recommendations do you guys have? TIA!
I think scottwax used the Optimum Power Clean to get paint off of a car for a dealer, it was quite amazing looking at the pictures..
believe it or not, I used meg's last touch and a Detailers Pride clay bar. It worked. I tried 3 other clay bars and they didnt do squat.
thanks a lot guys, im going to probably get everything recommended and see what can be done. Expect pics if he decides to have me do it!
APC and Clay, this stuff comes off pretty easy. If it is all over the car it will be a little time consuming, but it is a fairly easy job that you should be able to charge a decent amount for removal. The only Problem you will have is trying to get it off the Tires...Good Luck :chips:
A lot of laquer thinner and a lot of rubbing with some old mf's will take off the bulk of the big stuff. A more aggressive clay like clay magic red clay will make short work of the rest, guaranteed.if you can't get the wheel wells completely cleaned, you can always give them a coat of flat black spray paint. I do this at work all the time and this is what I do so I know it works. Make sure to use the laquer thinner in a spray bottle so you can coat the areĆ¢, rub spome off, and repeat. The stuff dries up pretty quick so you'll have to keep reapplying it. Its a little time consuming, but it works.
so far i have APC - any recommendations? the most poweful, insane APC available? lol laquer thinner road paint remover wipes clay bar The last time I did this on a hummer I used acetone but it was soo tedious. I guess I am looking for something a little easier to use. I am also going to be getting a very, very rough brush for the wheel wells. My only concern is the areas were the paint is on the actual paint of the car and to safely remove it. I plan on having to spray the wheel wells. the last time i did it with acetone it left a white stain on the wheel wells so this time it will be spray painted. I am charging $25 an hour so it should be a worthwhile experience. After I get the paint off he is also wanting an interior clean up and wash and wax
You can give the Turtle Wax Bug and Tar Remover a shot as well for some bigger spots. The claybar and it's aggressive level is going to be key here.
I'm a big fan of the zep citrus full strength as an APC. It's really cheap by the gallon, smells decent, and does a good job. Used a combination of that and the zep purple degreaser on my mom's 97 volvo's wheel's which had never been cleaned - ever. And that combination cleaned it right up with some agitation, I'm not sure if the degreaser would be safe for use on the body, but the citrus stuff is excellent imo. And by cheap I mean CHEAP, I got a gallon of the citrus stuff for $7 from home depot I think it was.
