Optimum was nice enough to send me their latest washing tool, the Opti-Mitt for review, and after using it for a month, here are my thoughts. First of all, many of you might recognize this as a rebranded ShMITT. Frankly, I thought the same at first. Optimum was kind enough to explain that they in fact, they don't share that much apart from the design. The foam is quite different (much softer than the ShMITT) and the glue is guaranteed to not come loose, a big problem that the original ShMITT had. Pros: - Very soft indeed, this is some nice material. No chance of scratching here. - The back is nice for getting bugs of, something I found nice to use when I would get around plastic pieces on the bodywork. Just flip it and wash it with the back of your hand. - Holds quite a bit of water, so lubrication is not an issue. - Quite large, so you can actually cover quite a bit of paint. - Has a string on it, so easy to let it dry in your garage. Also prevents you from dropping it accidentally. - I see this lasting for quite some time, it is much harder to "destroy" this than an average bone sponge. Cons: - I don't have large hands, and it was quite snug. So if you have big hands, it might be a tight fit. - It's large, which means you have to watch that you don't miss any spots. Let me know if you have any questions!
thanks for the review, has the string ever been an issue in getting caught between the mitt and paint to maybe cause marring?
You can always cut it off if you want to be 100% sure, but I just "tuck it in" the mitt itself and it's not an issue.
I would like to use this thing. I have had and have been using the Schmitt since it first came out. Haven't bought another mitt because there was not point, these things are awesome!
