Had the time today to test out a few metal polishes on an old exhaust. Up for testing was Autosol, P21s Multi-surface Finish Restorer, and P21s Polishing Soap.

Now on the really tuff stuff, however only tested the polishing soap and Autosol. Autosol on the left and polishing soap on the right.

Overall to me it seems that the polishing soap did a better job in cleaning in both cases. The finish restorer is pretty thick and not very easy to work with. Autosol is a little thinner in consistency and at the same time very easy to use and still does a pretty good job in cleaning. I would personally stick with Autosol or the polishing soap.

The polishing soap looks like the winner here.

    Thanks for the review Brent!

Hmm, looks like the polishing soap did a noticeably better job than Autosol. How does it compare in price?

Theres definately more clarity with the polishing soap, How hard was the included applicator sponge though?

I've been using the polishing soap for about two years now and I'm always impressed with it. If you are cleaning a car with chrome bumpers, after you wash them, go over them with the Polishing Soap and then rinse. You'll crap your pants at the shine!! The applicator pad is soft so watch it on things like exhaust hangers. Excellent product.

Matrix--- I actually have both P21S versions and I tend to use the soap for the heavier grime such as exhausts and my kitchen sink....lol. For chrome handles, mirrors etc I will use the Finish restorer since it's not as messy and you can work the smaller areas better. Keep in mind that the sponge they give you with the soap has been known to cause scratching on chrome surfaces.

Price wise, cheapest i found Autosol was on ebay for like $10-$15 shipped for the 3.33 oz tube. The polishing soap is only $10.99 at Autogeek. Ya i was pretty impressed with the polishing soap actually. Instructions say to just dampen the sponge and start scrubbing pretty much. All this time i have been using autosol and loved the results, but think i may start using the polishing soap more. It may be a bit difficult to use the sponge in tight areas like in the exhaust piping, I wonder how well it would still clean with a damp towel instead.

As for the included sponge, its pretty firm, but i think its pretty safe as some (including me) have used 0000 steel wool

Oh thought i would add, the polishing soap cleaned VERY easily out of the sponge pad. Just blasted it with the hose and squeezed a couple times and it was clean. I used Autosol on the pipe with the same sponge pad and its a bit more greasy and I needed to take some Dawn to it to clean it out.

Those results seem great. Ive always wanted to use the p21s soap and I def will now. I agree with the finish restorer being hard to work with.

    Good review :applause2:

I've used the P21S Polishing Soap several times but I prefer Autosol, but it is true P21S Polishing Soap will leave a greater finish I find it takes a long time against really bad exhaust pipes. I use Autosol with steel wool when doing a really bad exhaust pipe. But I wonder if I should do the following, first Autosol with 0000 steel wool, then followed up with P21S Polishing Soap..mmm.......

    Any who great review :thumb:

How do you guys apply polishing soap? Do you use the same applicator? How much pressure do you add?

To properly use the Polishing Soap, you dampen the sponge, wipe it across the soap and massage the sponge until a foam appears, THEN polish the surface. This should eliminate any chance of marring any surface. Hope this helps.

Thanks Matrix for the review! I have been looking for a polish to clean up the visible portion of the stainless steel mufflers on my MB and Taurus. Definitely will add this to my DD order.
