My air conditioning in my car 2008 VW Rabbit went mostly unused this summer since I love driving around with my windows down.

However, over some time my AC system started to smell when it was activated. I assume mildew and other things collected and made it smell. The odor was akin to a wet dog. This occurred even after my cabin air filter was replaced.

    Thus, I decided to give 1Z Klima-Cleaner a try mid-December.

Other members have questioned the usage of K-C as it's usage is very unique. Respondents generally reply by saying you should read the directions thoroughly to avoid improper use. However, I'm the type of person that reads every detailing product label before use.

I'm not going to restate word for word what the label says but the process is fairly simple. Turn off your car and AC (as you would expect), set your HVAC control to the front facing vents (not defrost of feet), shake the can, place the long hose connection to the aerosol can opening, snake it through the middle vent, release contents.

I admit, there was a time before I fed the hose through the vent where I was sceptic it would lead to the evaporator core. But it surprised me when it glided right in.

Another interesting observance was the fact that the contents sprayed out for longer than I expected. Despite the directions saying to use the entire bottle, people say you can use less. I stopped once the release slowed down to a snail's pace.

You then let the product dwell for about 30 minutes. Then come back and run the AC full blast.

I had to roll the windows down at this point as it started blowing the cleaner smell back in to my face and some moisture flew out too.

The cleaner smell is not unpleasant; it's kinda of like an APC smell. The cleaning smell stayed in my AC system for about three weeks, but being applied in winter meant my AC rarely was used. The odor diminishes over that time; and I can't smell it at all.

    Results?

It's been about a month and a half but has keep the smell away despite rarely using my AC.

    I give this an A+.

Thanks for the great product einszett!
