I received my Adams Lug/Detail brush last week and I have used it quit a bit already. This is a tool that once you have one, you will use it A LOT! I had previously used a Swissvax lug brush, but I was never quit satisfied with it, it had the same failure problems over and over. The Ferrule on the Swissvax is plastic and breaks easily. Also, like most brushes, it would constantly shed its fibers and would start to deteriorate over time.

My first thoughts, it was much bigger than I expected. The handle and the bristles are larger/longer than any other brush I have ever used.

The bristles/handle are glued in with a load of epoxy, this ensures that you will not shed any bristles and it will be highly resistant to various chemicals
    [IMG]

The bristles are made with Natural Boars Hair, this allows the brush to be used even on delicate surfaces without the fear of scratching the surface. There is a ridiculous amount of 'bristles' in this brush. They are packed in there extremely tight which makes it extremely dense.

The handle is very comfortable and easy to hold on to. It is contoured and it can be held with various grips depending where you are using it and how you need to hold it.

The length of the bristles and handle make it extremely easy and convenient to reach into areas where you could previously not reach or would scrape your knuckles getting to
    [IMG]

I prefer to use this brush to clean the entire wheel. The problem I have with other wheel brushes or sponges is that you miss the tight areas of the wheel, which causes you to go back a second time to get the spots you missed. Again, the bristles on this brush are extremely dense and you can apply plenty of pressure to get aggressive and remove stubborn dirt/grime without having the bristles collapse in on themselves.

There is no sponge or mitt that will effectively clean 'tight' areas. If these areas are missed, they will completely stick out and take away from the overall clean look of the vehicle.

This is THE BEST Lug/Detail brush you will ever use. It is $24.95 which seems a little pricey compared to the Swissvax brush which is $13. But, this brush is far superior to any competitor. I went through (broke) 2 Swissvax brushes this year and 2 last year. This brush will pays for itself in quality alone, but take into account the years of service I will get out of this one brush and it is a great investment.

looks painfully top heavy, not great for hand health which is a concern for me and a lot of people.

how did you find it, seems like the head of it would force your hand downward when cleaning a wheel as most of its weight is there.

is that the finished product? i wonder what the production one will look like, adams colors?

That is the finished product that they are selling now.

i wouldnt let that metal collar within 10 feet of my rims

i use my sv brush to clean calipers and rotor hubs, and constantly knocking it against the wheel spokes - been using it for over a year now, throwing it in and out of my bucket, and it hasnt cracked like the couple people here have mentioned

for 25 bucks they could have plastic or rubber coated it

Great review mato. I received my Adam's Lug Nut Brush on Thursday and I used it on Friday and I really like it so far.

There is not that much weight that it causes discomfort or makes it difficult to use. Just like anything else, if it becomes uncomfortable the way your holding it, change your grip.

It is a more common problem than the couple of people that have mentioned it here. It is the most common complaint with the SV brush. This is the trade off with this brush, because it is metal it WILL be more durable than the plastic SV brush. The ferrule is rounded off so it doesn't have any sharp edges. The problem with the metal coming into contact with your wheels could be solved by covering the ferrule with black electrical tape.

You can always add electrical tape around the swissvax plastic head to prevent it from breaking... sure it's kinda ghetto but it works!

Change my grip? Im not holding a wheel brush like a knife in which I would stab someone, kinda only one way to skin this cat. :giggle:

And 2, I have had the same plastic SV brush for over 60cars, I got rid of it because the bristels got a little stiff but the plastic never cracked, over 100 cars and only 2 SV brushes at $13 a piece, not a bad deal.

I have to agree, the price is very steep :S

then id have to keep changing the tape as it peels with water/detergents/knocking

apart from the fanboys, i dont see how this is a better solution to the sv brush - the durability hasnt been tested only hypothosized so you cant compare it to your broken sv brush yet, which btw i only ever started reading about once this brush was released :shead:

for me, there's no point spending 25 bucks and then having to ghetto up a solution for it's huge failing

im all for product progress, but they're asking people to spend twice as much as their openly publicized competitor for a product that isn't wheel safe

if the EZ Brush or Wheel Woolies had a metal handle/stem every one would be going off their rocker complaining about them, and this is no different

thanks for your review, and im sure people will buy it, but i stil prefer the sv brush even if it does break on me one day

It was just a suggestion, I have only have it for a few days and I have already used on 5 cars. I have had no discomfort using it on any of the vehicles.

You bring up a valid point though, this isn't something I thought of when I first saw it. But, I can see how it would be a concern to some.

norcal & domino, thanks for the comments.

Both of you brought up great points, I will be updating the durability I am seeing out of this brush. I use the hell out of Lug Brushes and only time will tell how well its going to hold up. But, so far so good

For what its worth, they do make heat-shrink tubing in larger diameters that will fit around both of these brushes. That would help alleviate the cracking issue on the SV (which I am currently experiencing after 10 cars or so) and the metal on the Adams brush if that bothers you. HTH.

    true and a great idea

but at already twice the price of the SV, is that something i should be going out to source/buy and doing at home over my kitchen stove?

So far the people who are speculating on the brush are not making any valid points.

  18. $25 for a brush that you have to go out and spend more money on to make it "car safe?" No sir. I bought a SW-like brush from Michael's for $3 and have been using it for over a year now without any issues or cracking of the plastic. Maybe I'm just gentle or something, but I've never had an issue with cracking of plastic, and I sure as heck would not spend $25 on something that I'd have to modify for peace of mind.

Just can't pull the trigger on this due to this pic alone. Seem like just a matter of time before the back of the brush scrapes against a rim. I feel like they really made a mistake in not coating the ferrule with rubber/plastic.

Coating the brush ferrule would make an already expensive brush more expensive and as stated here its not a cheap brush, neither for us to produce or for the end user to buy. I haven't had any issues with it scraping or scratching wheels and I've used in on my painted 22's, stock F430 wheels, audis 10 spoke wheels, polished aluminum aftermarket, powdercoated, BMW 7 series, etc. Tons of wheels with varying openings, tight spaces, close caps, and chances to hit the ferrule on them. The leading edge of the ferrule is rolled, so it is not sharp. The rear edge meets up evenly with the epoxy so its not sharp either. You'd really have to be getting careless or sloppy with it to damage something and as others have pointed out there are "mods" if its legitimately a concern for you.

We knew that upon release of a brush like this is wan't gonna make everyone happy. We set out with one goal in mind - make a brush that outlasted the stuff we were using ourselves, make it here in the US, and make it perform. The best solution for this was a nickel ferrule... it might not please everyone, but you can't please 100% of the people 100% of the time.

Its an alternative to what many people use, nothing more. If you don't see a benefit then who are we to tell you otherwise - stick with your current brush. Like I've said multiple times before the SV brush is great - it has long been my preferred brush of its type and a product I highly recommended for a long time even though it was coming from a competitor. Multiple brushes like this one pictured below is what ended up driving us to come to our own solution:

    View attachment 2070

Its an inevitability with the design, the brush is set in a weak epoxy, surrounded by brittle plastic and has an uncoated wood handle in the middle. The swelling of the handle and bristles alone when it gets saturated is enough to stress the ferrule and crack it. Being that we back everything with a 110% guarantee it would become quite the expensive proposition should we sell one that had the same issue as we'd be sending out replacement brushes all the time. On average my brush was lasting 4-6 months of heavy use. This brush lasting 8-12 months alone already pays for itself, the durability should prove to last far beyond that timeframe.
