After waxing the DD with SV Shield in the beginning of october '11, the performance of the wax is starting to fade. One layer was applied back then, after prepping the paint with clay and regular Cleaner Fluid(no abrasives). And last time, being over a year ago, it was polished with Menzerna 85RE on my Festool Shinex Rotary. Wash has been carried out with an extensive pre-wash, 2bm, a variety of shampoos and Zymöl sponges, dried using 0 ppm water, blower and pattern technique with MF towels. Being able to restore a finish is great, but to be honest, I find a lot of joy in 'keeping up appearances'. Kind regards, Ebbe
Looks good man, what have you been using to combat bug guts? That has always been the straw that breaks the camels back on my finishes. After a few too many bugs guts get built up and get stuck on all stubborn like, I finally strip and reapply.
Hi, Thanks I'm using warm water through the PW (around 40 deg. c.), so a good rinse will loosen quite a bit. After this, I apply a dedicated wax-safe pre-wash product through a pump-sprayer called Orange Pre-Wash made by ValetPRO in the UK. I believe Autofinesse's Citrus Power is a bit like it, but the Valet PRO product is dilute-able. If it has been really battered, I extend the working time of the Orange Pre-Wash by foaming the car with Meguiars Hyper-Wash or Poorboy's Super Slick & Suds. This has worked quite well for me in both summer and winter, but we don't have a lot of bugs flying around throughout the winter here in Denmark. Kind regards, Ebbe
Anyone happen to know of a good dilutable alternative to the Orange Pre-wash from Valetpro that we can get stateside? I can't afford to buy small bottles. All the stuff I currently use to remove bugs strips wax other than my wash soaps. If my front end gets really bad in between major LSP applications, I usually just strip it and apply a spray wax.
- Thanks Ken. - You can also wet a big bathing towel in your normal shampoo wash solution and put it on the front end. Be sure to keep it wet and let it sit there for 10-15 minutes. In most cases it will soften up the bugs enough for them to be removed with a PW. - Quite a few nano-sealants are not affected by APCs or strong bug removers, maybe you should look into these. Wax is nice, but it's not always the best suited for the task. Kind regards, Ebbe
