On my 2011 Silverado, I have a few spots on the on-protected bed that the paint has been fully removed, and have minor surface rust. I already have a can of primer, touchup paint, and I am going to be getting some cheap DIY bed-protector soon. But, before I use that stuff, what would you do to ensure the rust is fully removed? I was going to try using Wolfs Iron Remover plus sanding it down, etc. I just do not know the order or anything. Plus, the primer is a rust-remover or whatever, and it is for Autos. I am not too concerned with the bed as I am willing to be rough with it to get the job done, but I do have one other spot on the beds top-rail, the side...that is rusted as well, but is on the actual body paint. Any help? Thanks!
I've done what you are doing, and I also used a drill with a wire brush (actually several styles wire brushes) to initially bust-down the rust to allow the rust eater to work better. You mentioned it's minor rust so the wire brushes might not be necessary.
