On my 2011 Silverado, I have a few spots on the on-protected bed that the paint has been fully removed, and have minor surface rust.

I already have a can of primer, touchup paint, and I am going to be getting some cheap DIY bed-protector soon. But, before I use that stuff, what would you do to ensure the rust is fully removed? I was going to try using Wolfs Iron Remover plus sanding it down, etc. I just do not know the order or anything. Plus, the primer is a rust-remover or whatever, and it is for Autos.

I am not too concerned with the bed as I am willing to be rough with it to get the job done, but I do have one other spot on the beds top-rail, the side...that is rusted as well, but is on the actual body paint.

    Any help? Thanks!

Sounds good, especially since that stuff is carried EVERYWHERE!!!

    Thanks!

I've done what you are doing, and I also used a drill with a wire brush (actually several styles wire brushes) to initially bust-down the rust to allow the rust eater to work better.

You mentioned it's minor rust so the wire brushes might not be necessary.
