So tonight driving home from my girlfriends house im on rt.80 cruising at about 65-67 minding my business when all of the sudden i hear a rapid chirping sound. I immediately hit the brakes and slow to about 58-60 (speed limit being 55) my radar has a big "L" on it and I look around and see a state trooper pointing his laser gun at me while sitting in his car hiding in the bushes with his lights off. so i quickly roll my 2 front windows down (20% tints=illegal) and drive by. didnt get pulled over thank God, but man i was pissed. reason being im not too sure but ive heard that a cop, for safety reasons cannot sit in his car "sniping" with his radar gun and lights off at night. any one else know about this? i wanted to hi beam the hell out of him lol but didnt want a stupid ticket. maybe richy or someone else who knows about laws can chime in? actually anyone can say anything here lol i dont mind
Cops can do anything they want... and and bend the circumstances in any way they need to make it all work out... Good Job!
Laser detector/jammer is the best investment, ever! My stereo turns off (if it's on) and warns me about a laser trap, and says jamming is active. I slow down and hit a button, which deactivates jamming, then it returns my vehicle's speed and everything is hunky dory! LOVE that system. Radar jammers are illegal though, as they tend to interfere with airports and stuff.
Yeah. I use an Escort 8500 and, from what I understnad, once you get hit by laser, you're done!! X, K, Ka, etc, you have a chance. He must have liked you!!!!???:yikes:
thanks and yes very true, just like the trooper that lied and gave me the most BS ticket! Wish i could put in a laser jammer in my car, my friend had one and had to take it out because he was getting too much trouble from the cops for it. Yep, from what ive read by the time your radar lets you know about a laser you're already done for. All others are relatively easy to counter, just have to be quick enough. and he must of like me or something:shrug: i know why he targeted me and not the lincoln next to me...just changed the bulbs on my hids and theyre super bright (no projectors) so they are a bit of an eyesore :sorry: but it just bugs me that he was hiding like that. At least drive around or have your headlights on
It's not illegal in most states, and if done properly they won't even know you have it. Mine is all remote mounted and my driver looks like it's part of the dash. It fits in well with my Defi-Link controller.
I thought about a jammer. My luck, I would be the only car on the road when I got lasered. That would be an easy ticket for messing around with him being able to do his duty!!!:thud:
It's VERY common for them to miss. It just returns the same code as when they miss, so they just shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot until they get a reading. I've got great brakes so I slow down in a jiffy, hit the button and they don't give me a second look.
The radar is just an excuse to speed more imo, that's why I sold my Valentine 1 recently. Just drive the speed limit (i do 5mph over) and you'll be fine and dandy. No need for a $200-400 gadget.
paid $80 for my Cobra but i only have mine to help me out at night like in this situation, during the day im always lookin in my rear and looking a mile ahead. Thats when i do 80  but only if the rest of traffic is as well. I might look into getting a jammer when i get my next car edit: plus spK dont the highways in Texas have a speed limit of 70 for the most part?
the only time i see them lights on are when they are on the shoulder. when they are in the median or off the road here in MI i see them lights out.
I was just thinking...this could be agreat advertising opportunity!!! Have your car fully wrapped with your biz info. Next time you get tagged, RUN!!!!!!! Think of all the news coverage your biz will get!!!!!!:yikes:
I no longer use radar detectors because they are worthless. All radars do is make me paranoid and uncomfortable while driving. So no more radars and now I just do 5mph over at slower speed zones, 8 or 10mph over at 40+ speed zones and no problems so far. anbuzero, I think the law you are thinking of is that the police officer/cruiser has to be visible to the driver because the officer has to visually witness you speeding or something along those lines. Either way, if the officer was hiding in the bushes and radars you, and issues you a ticket, you can bet your ass that the judge is going to side with the officer if you try to dispute that in court.
How long have you been living in NJ? I have been here in NNJ all my life. Cops hiding in strange places are a fact of life. (insert joke here) On my way home from the GF's place last night. There were 2 cops cops hiding in the pitch black. One was impressively well hidden behind a bush. If I wasn't for a strange reflection I would have never seen the light bar. The other was in a driveway that had a wall that was high enough to hide the car from sight until you were driving right past it. Heck 287 just south of the RT23 exit on the north bound side. There is a gap in the sound barrier were unmarked cars sit all the time. That is a particularly good spot for them you cant even catch the odd reflection. A great classic location for a typical jersey cop speed trap. One thing to remember about all laser speed guns, they are all line of sight if you can't see them they can't see you. Soo if you can see far into the distance and all is clear hammer down. Remember one thing crest hills with caution in that situation the line of sight geometry is in their favor.
Let's not forget that if you drive around with loooking suspicious, you're going to get treated that way. Speeding, tinted windows up front, aftermarket lighting that wouldn't pass inspection, etc. are all illegal things in NJ. At the very least, you are going to attract more attention and cops are going to target your ass.
